Job summary

Trident Maritime Systems is seeking a Safety Technician to protect employee health and safety by controlling workplace risks and coordinating safety programs. The role requires enforcing OSHA compliance across local operations and subcontractors, training staff, and conducting safety inspections.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Shipyard/shipbuilding experience is preferred.
  • OSHA 10 Maritime Certification is required.
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.
  • Ability to type and use a 10-key with accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for sensitive situations.
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs as required.
  • Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.
  • Must pass a drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure OSHA compliance.
  • Plan, implement, and conduct training on site safety practices and chemical handling.
  • Inspect operations to detect hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure proper warning signage and access restrictions are in place.
  • Assist in investigating near misses, accidents, and injuries and document findings.
  • Submit OSHA-related reports and coordinate return-to-work with HR.
  • Schedule safety meetings and maintain documentation.
  • Observe crews, correct PPE usage, and report safety violations.
  • Conduct regular vessel/building safety surveys and enforce protective equipment use.
  • Conduct Daily Safety Walk-Throughs with supervisors and inspectors.

Summary:

The Safety Technician will work to protect employee health and safety by making sure risks in the workplace are properly controlled. Assist in conducting and coordinating the facilities safety and environmental programs to ensure that the company provides a safe work environment in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure that the company and its subcontractors are compliant with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Plan, implement, and execute programs to train employees and new hires in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct use and handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, tools, equipment, and other materials.
  • Inspect the company's operations to detect existing or potential fire, accident, and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative actions where indicated, implements actions, and follow up to ensure actions taken are effective.
  • Determine needs and ensures that information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials are in place to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
  • Assist in the investigation of near misses, accidents and injuries and document the testimonies, conditions, and causes and determine the recommended actions to prevent recurrence. Implement actions and follow up to determine the effectiveness of actions taken.
  • Ensure that accidents and injury reports are documented and submitted as required by OSHA, to the company and our insurance providers. Works closely with Production Department and Human Resources in the coordination of the return-to-work program.
  • Plan, schedule, and ensure that material is available for all safety meetings and that meeting notes are recorded and filed. Represents the organization in local community or industry safety groups and programs.
  • Observe crews at work and make on the spot protective equipment corrections, report violations in safety precautions. Investigate accidents to determine causes and identify or devise preventive measures.
  • Conduct vessel, building, and grounds surveys on a periodic and regular basis to detect violations, hazards, and incorrect work practices and procedures. Ensure workers are provided with suitable protective equipment, such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and/or appropriate types of gloves and clothing. Keeping up to date with new legislation and health and safety standards.
  • Conduct Daily Safety Walk-Through Inspections with supervisors and/or Shipyard Safety Inspectors. Complete required documentation on results of inspections and investigations.
