Job summary

Northline Seafoods is seeking a proactive Safety Coordinator to support a safe, compliant workplace across production, sanitation, maintenance, and warehousing in Bellingham, WA.

The role requires leading safety inspections, coordinating training, investigating incidents, and ensuring adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements in a cold, industrial seafood processing environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in safety, manufacturing, food processing, maintenance, construction, or a related industrial environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and/or Washington State workplace safety requirements.
  • Strong inspection, documentation, communication, and follow-through skills.
  • Proficiency with email, spreadsheets, word-processing programs, and electronic recordkeeping systems.
  • Safety degree or certification preferred.
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred.
  • Experience in seafood processing or food manufacturing preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine safety inspections of production areas and facilities; document findings and track corrective actions.
  • Maintain safety programs, records, postings, and training documentation per OSHA and state requirements.
  • Lead new-hire orientation, toolbox talks, refresher training, and PPE/lockout/tagout/hazard communication instruction.
  • Investigate injuries, near misses, chemical exposures, and property damage; identify root causes and monitor trends.
  • Monitor safe practices around seafood-processing machinery, conveyors, freezers, forklifts, and chemicals.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness, evacuation drills, and inspections of eyewash stations, showers, extinguishers, and first-aid supplies.
  • Review contractor and project safety requirements for equipment installation and hot work; ensure compliance.
  • Prepare safety metrics and reports; participate in safety and management meetings; support continuous improvement.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record to operate company vehicles.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job description

SUMMARY

Northline Seafoods is a seafood processing company with land-based plant operations in Bellingham, WA and seasonal Alaska operations. We are seeking a proactive, hands-on Safety Coordinator to support a safe, compliant, and prevention-focused workplace at our Bellingham production facility.

This role will support safety across production, sanitation, maintenance, quality assurance, warehouse, refrigeration, and facility operations. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for maintaining a visible presence throughout the facility, identifying and addressing workplace hazards, coordinating safety training, investigating incidents, and supporting consistent compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements. The Safety Coordinator will work closely with employees, supervisors, managers, and contractors to promote a strong safety culture and ensure safe work practices are consistently followed throughout the Bellingham facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct routine safety inspections of production areas, warehouses, freezers, docks, maintenance spaces, and employee facilities; document findings and track corrective actions to completion.
  • Maintain safety programs, procedures, records, postings, training documentation, and required reports in accordance with OSHA, Washington State L&I, fire code, and company requirements.
  • Lead new-hire orientation, toolbox talks, refresher training, and instruction in PPE, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, machine guarding, forklift safety, emergency response, ergonomics, and cold-environment safety.
  • Investigate injuries, near misses, chemical exposures, and property damage; identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and monitor trends while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Monitor safe practices around seafood-processing machinery, conveyors, vacuum-packaging equipment, freezers, forklifts, sanitation chemicals, wet floors, and energized equipment.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness, evacuation drills, and inspections of eyewash stations, showers, extinguishers, first-aid supplies, spill kits, exits, and ammonia-refrigeration response readiness.
  • Review contractor and project safety requirements for equipment installation, electrical, refrigeration, welding, rigging, hot work, confined spaces, and elevated work.
  • Prepare safety metrics and reports, participate in safety and management meetings, and support continuous improvement without unnecessarily disrupting production.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record to operate company vehicles to assist employees and business operations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of experience in safety, manufacturing, food processing, maintenance, construction, or a related industrial environment preferred

This position requires regular standing and walking, as well as frequent bending, reaching, and stair climbing. The position may occasionally require lifting up to 50 pounds. Work is performed in wet, cold, noisy, refrigerated, and industrial environments and may involve exposure to seafood products, sanitation chemicals, forklifts, machinery, and other workplace hazards. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as applicable. The employee must also be able to sit at a computer workstation for prolonged periods and communicate clearly and effectively with team members.
