Job summary

Commercial Metals is seeking an experienced Safety Specialist to enhance site safety programs at our Seguin operations. You will lead incident investigations, develop and implement policies, and drive training across departments.

Responsibilities include coordinating safety metrics, ensuring JSAs are up to date, and promoting a proactive safety culture while working on-call and in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years identifying and addressing workplace hazards.
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA General Industry Regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with safety management systems is a plus.
  • Willingness to work on-call and in all weather.

Responsibilities

  • Create clear lines of communication between department management and Safety Department.
  • Assist and support Operations Safety in development and implementation of safety policies, procedures, requirements, and initiatives.
  • Continuously evaluate tasks to ensure JSAs are up to date and implemented.
  • Assist operational departments with timely completion of incident investigations and safety compliance.
  • Motivate employees to follow safety culture through a Proactive Safety Measure program and consistent communication of safety standards.
  • Coordinate safety and assist in coordinating contractor safety with plant operations.
  • Assist safety council meetings and monthly facility inspections follow-up.
  • Develop corrective actions for identified hazards and track implementation.
  • Coordinate employee training including New Employee Safety Orientation, annual retraining, forklift, material handler, overhead crane, and site-specific equipment safeguards.
  • Perform regular reporting of safety metrics, incident investigations, projects, initiatives and safety issues.
  • Collect, organize and analyze data to spot trends and evaluate program effectiveness.

What You'll Do
  • Work to create clear lines of communication between the department management and the Safety Department

  • Assist operational departments with timely completion of incident investigations and safety compliance.
  • Motivate employees to follow the safety culture through administration of a Proactive Safety Measure program and consistent communication of CMC safety standards
  • Support contractor safety and assist in coordinating their work activity with CMC employees and plant operations
  • Assist, conduct and follow up of safety council meetings and monthly facility inspections
  • Assist facility in development of corrective actions for identified hazard, to include but not limited to implementation, tracking and follow up
  • Coordinate/facilitate all required employee training including but not limited to New Employee Safety Orientation, annual required re-training, forklift, material handler, overhead crane, and site specific equipment safeguards
  • Perform regular reporting of safety metrics, incident investigations, projects/initiatives, outstanding safety issues, and any other reporting deemed necessary
  • Collect, organize and analyze data to be able to spot trends, evaluate program effectiveness and propose initiatives
What You'll Need
  • Minimum 3 years of experience identifying and addressing workplace hazards, including incident prevention and safety committee leadership
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA General Industry Regulations required
  • Overall knowledge of the steel making process is a plus
  • Proficiency with computer operating systems, to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
  • Web based safety management system experience is a plus
  • Passion to continuously build a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop or deliver safety programs and training materials
  • Proven ability to perform safely, build relationships, and convey important safety initiatives across the organization
  • Must be able to work an on-call schedule
  • Must be able to work outside under all weather conditions to include working in the heat and cold weather
Your Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required
