Job description

Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES anticipates an appointment for a Safety Coordinator within the Regional Safety Services department. This position will provide BOCES with expertise and technical assistance with safety concerns or hazards, and recommend specific safety programs to reduce accidents. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Assisting schools in planning, drills, and exercises;
• Provide assistance to BOCES personnel to recognize and handle toxic substances in accordance with various provisions surrounding fire & building compliance and hazardous waste disposal;
• Plan and facilitate the Regional Safety Committee, Regional School Nurses Committee, and various safety seminars;
• Participate in Regional Crisis TEAM and BOCES Health & Safety Committee;
• Maintain all records for “Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act” and “Right to Know” hazard plans;
• Represent BOCES during County EOC drills/meetings;
• Act as liaison between federal, state and local agencies regarding health and safety, and emergency planning;
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Either:

• Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience involving the administration OR development of health & safety programs, and/or emergency planning, and/or crisis response OR
• Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, an Environmental, Physical or Biological science field, Education, Psychology, Social Work, or Nursing may be substituted for one (1) year of the required work experience as described in (A) OR
• High School Diploma with three (3) years of law enforcement experience
