Job summary

MECO LLC in Louisville, KY, is seeking a Construction Project Safety Coordinator to promote a safe work environment by helping develop and update the safety program across projects.

You will collaborate with Superintendents, Foremen, subcontractors, and site personnel to identify hazards, conduct inspections, ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, and drive continuous safety improvements so every worker returns home safe.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • At least 2 years working around steel erection, structural steel, sheet metal, or scaffolding projects.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required or must be obtained before hire.
  • OSHA 500/510, CHST, ASP, CSP, or equivalent certification preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification required or able to obtain.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to company jobsites.

Job Overview

The Construction Project Safety Coordinator is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe work environment by assisting in developing and updating the safety program and by ensuring compliance with company policies, client requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations. The Safety Coordinator reports directly to the Safety Director, and works collaboratively with Superintendents, Foremen, subcontractors, and all project personnel to identify hazards, implement corrective actions, and foster a proactive safety culture on every project to ensure every employee returns home safely each day.

Responsibilities
  • SAFETY LEADERSHIP
  • Promote a positive safety culture through leadership, communication, and employee engagement.
  • Serve as the field safety resource for project personnel.
  • Encourage and oversee employee reporting of hazards, near misses, and safety concerns
  • Communicate safety expectations to subcontractors and employees.
  • JOB SITE INSPECTIONS
  • Conduct routine job-site safety inspections based on project needs and direction from the Safety Director.
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions and unsafe behaviors.
  • Ensure corrective actions are implemented and documented.
  • Verify proper housekeeping and material storage throughout the project.
  • Monitor compliance with company safety policies and client requirements.
  • REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
  • Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA regulations, project-specific safety requirements, and required safety documentation and records.
  • Maintain knowledge of current safety standards and industry best practices.
  • Help build dashboards or reports for safety trends.
  • Assist management during regulatory inspections and audits.
  • HAZARD IDENTIFICATION AND RISK ASSESSMENT
  • Participate in pre-task planning and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) reviews.
  • Evaluate work activities before they begin.
  • Recommend engineering, administrative, and PPE controls to reduce risk.
  • Monitor changing job site conditions and update hazard controls as needed.
  • INCIDENT MANAGEMENT
  • Respond to incidents, injuries, property damage, and near misses.
  • Assist with investigations to determine root causes.
  • Develop and track corrective and preventive actions.
  • Prepare timely incident reports for management.
  • TRAINING AND DOCUMENTATION
  • Conduct new employee safety orientation and task-specific safety training.
  • Deliver weekly toolbox talks.
  • Verify employee qualifications and certification compliance.
  • Assist with the development of LMS courses and guides.
  • Set and assist with meeting training initiatives.
  • Coach supervisors on effective safety leadership.
  • Maintain accurate records including but not limited to safety inspections, training records, near miss reports, incident investigations, corrective action logs, equipment inspection records, safety observations, etc.
  • EQUIPMENT AND PPE
  • Verify and inspect fall protection systems are properly installed and used.
  • Monitor leading-edge work and controlled access zones.
  • Ensure rescue procedures are established before work begins.
  • Oversee daily equipment inspections and removal of damaged equipment.
  • Monitor crane, aerial lift, forklift, and scaffold safety.
  • Ensure proper PPE is available and correctly worn.
Qualifications And Physical Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree or bachelor's degree in occupational safety, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Equivalent construction safety or field experience may be considered.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • At least 2 years working around steel erection, structural steel, sheet metal, or scaffolding projects.

  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Ability to work at heights when necessary.
