Job summary

NewRange Copper Nickel is seeking a Safety Coordinator to support and implement emergency response measures, risk management programs, and occupational safety and health standards. You will assist in audits, incident investigations, and training, while coordinating with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance.

The role emphasizes maintaining a proactive safety culture, working across departments, and adapting to evolving site conditions, with travel to project sites as required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of three years of experience in health and safety.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety laws.
• Mining industry experience preferred.
• Experience in risk assessment and emergency response is an asset.
• Proficient in MS Office.

Job description

Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager, or any other individual designated by the Company, the Safety Coordinator supports and implements effective emergency response measures, risk management programs, effective occupational safety and health measures, and security as required.

Responsibilities

Safety Program Coordination

• Support day-to-day activities of the Health & Safety Department.
• Perform regular inspections and safety audits to identify and correct hazards.
• Develop, implement, and monitor safety and health programs that address occupational safety risks, ensure compliance, and minimize liability.
• Assist in achieving the short-term objectives of the Health & Safety Department by prioritizing tasks and contributing to timely completion of goals.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of safety standards and procedures to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with applicable governmental regulations, laws, codes, and company guidelines.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of industrial hygiene programs, including air monitoring, biological monitoring, hearing conservation, and respiratory protection programs.
• Perform risk assessments using various methodologies and coach staff in their usage.
• Coordinate, perform, and document incident investigations.
• Analyze inspection results, audit findings, incident reports, and statutory requirements to identify required gaps in programs and training.

Regulatory Compliance & Agency Coordination

• Liaise with government regulatory agencies, including MSHA, to ensure prompt compliance with new and existing rules and regulations.
• Assist government inspectors during site inspections and investigations.
• Provide written reports and documentation to management regarding compliance status, incidents, and corrective actions.
• Provide safety and health training to employees and contractors.

Other Duties

• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to meet operational needs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a Health and Safety role required.
• Knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local occupational safety and health laws and regulations are a benefit.
• Experience in the mining industry preferred.
• Experience in risk assessment, emergency response and incident command considered an asset.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to conduct incident investigations, determine root causes, and recommend or initiate corrective and preventative measures.
• Ability to prepare comprehensive written reports for management, providing detailed safety performance data and identifying problem areas.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic operational environment.

Physical Job Requirements & Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to work in both office and active project site environments, including occasional travel to operating or construction sites. Physical requirements may include extended periods of sitting and computer use, walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs or accessing elevated platforms, and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, respiratory protection, and high-visibility clothing. The position may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and other typical construction or industrial site environments, while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and compliance with all health, safety, and environmental standards.
