Job summary

Rockford Construction Co. is seeking a Safety Coordinator to implement safety criteria on active jobsites and collaborate with the Senior Safety Manager.

You will help develop and enforce safety programs, conduct onsite assessments, and ensure compliance across projects. The role requires the ability to travel to various projects, hold OSHA 30 Hour certification, and effectively communicate safety plans to crews and subcontractors.

Qualifications

Safety Coordinator

About This Opportunity

As a Safety Coordinator at Rockford, you will be responsible for executing Rockford safety criteria on active jobsites. You will collaborate often with the Senior Safety Manager of Construction to assist in the continued development of specific company/department objectives and strategies that focus on company culture, training, auditing and awareness. This role reports to the Senior Safety Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Foster an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies, procedures, programs, standards, and design criteria on the assigned construction projects.
  • Communicate the plans and expectations to all Rockford affected team members including trade contractors.
  • Perform comprehensive onsite safety assessments of the projects.
  • Constantly monitor work operations for assuring safety compliance as required.
  • Participates in pre-construction and handoff meetings as required.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled construction and management meetings including presentation of safety training topics.
  • Assist in the maintenance of safety files and records.
  • Function as a liaison and maintain relationships outside of the Company that supports and promotes the company safety, health, and risk management programs. (Subcontractors, Clients, MIOSHA, MIOSHA CET, Other)
  • Enforce safety policies and recommend appropriate corrective actions to address violations and ensure compliance.
  • Ensure Rockford’s policies and procedures are understood and implemented consistently.
  • Provide guidance and direction to trades a in-regards to safety and risk management.
  • Communicate and reinforce Rockford’s vision, values and goals in a positive and professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety/health or equivalent training or a minimum 3 year’s construction safety experience
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required.
  • The unique ability to de-escalate difficult conversation. Willingness to take de-escalation training.
  • OSHA 30 Hour training certificate required.
  • Willingness to become certified in other area to perform the role.
  • Reliable transportation to travel. This position requires the individual to work on-site at assigned project locations for the duration of each project.
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company safety policies. Must possess the ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.
  • Must possess superior oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a working knowledge of MS Office, including strong skills in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Must be team-oriented. Willing to collaborate with construction teams and the safety team to ensure safety is met on jobsite, and in the office.

Environmental Factors

The work environment for this position may subject the individual to hazards commonly associated with construction including high temperatures, humidity, cold temperatures, and climbing stairs and ladders. Other examples of physical hazards include noise, proximity to moving vehicles, atmospheric conditions, close quarters, uneven surfaces, and elevated surfaces. The individual may also be subject to outside environmental conditions (weather) where protection may not be available. Lifting of 50 lbs, bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing will be necessary to perform the requirements of this position. Use of mobile equipment and power tools will be frequent. Personal protective equipment (PPE) including proper footwear, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection (if applicable), high visibility vest and/or other special clothing shall be worn on construction sites at all times unless otherwise specified.

Varied amounts of travel and time away from home should be expected as a requirement of this position. Extended stays away from home may result depending on the location of the project in proximity to the individual’s home.

Type of Environment

The work environment for this position is a typical office environment in which physical demands require the ability to sit for long periods of time. Intermittent movement will be necessary to perform requirements of the position such as accessing centrally located office equipment and may be subject to lifting of 35 lbs., bending, stooping, kneeling and climbing.
