Job summary

Service Steel Aerospace is seeking a Safety Coordinator for our Canton, OH facility. You will implement and maintain workplace health and safety programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while supporting steel distribution and processing operations.

You will lead investigations, oversee safety training, and partner with supervisors to improve safety performance across fleet and site operations in Ohio.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Maintain and administer safety policies per OSHA, DOT and state rules.
• Conduct facility inspections, JHAs, and safety audits across operations.
• Understand steel distribution center operations and equipment.
• Ensure regulatory compliance (IIPP, HazCom, LOTO, PPE, etc.).
• Lead investigations of accidents and near-misses to identify root causes.
• Coordinate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee orientations.
• Monitor contractor safety compliance and safety training programs.
• Participate in emergency response planning, drills, and crisis management.

We are looking for a Safety Coordinator to join our team in Canton, OH!

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for implementing and maintaining workplace health and safety programs that ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This position supports a steel distribution and processing facility by promoting a culture of safety, managing workplace injuries, managing regulatory compliance, and overseeing fleet safety operations throughout Ohio. The Safety Coordinator works closely with management, supervisors, employees, and contractors to identify hazards, implement corrective actions, and continuously improve safety performance.

Job Function

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain and administer company safety policies, programs, and procedures in compliance with OSHA, FMCSA, and applicable Ohio regulations.
• Conduct routine facility inspections, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and safety audits throughout the warehouse, processing, shipping, receiving, and fleet operations.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of steel distribution center operations, including material handling, overhead cranes, forklifts, loading and unloading procedures, rigging, storage systems, and steel processing equipment.
• Ensure compliance with all OH/OSHA regulations, including but not limited to:
  • Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP)
  • Hazard Communication (HazCom)
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Machine Guarding
  • Walking-Working Surfaces

• Lead accident, injury, near-miss, and property damage investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate safety meetings, toolbox talks, employee orientations, and ongoing safety training programs.
• Conduct new employee safety onboarding and annual compliance training.
• Monitor contractor safety compliance while working on company property.
• Partner with supervisors to identify unsafe conditions and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Participate in emergency response planning, drills, and crisis management activities.
• Maintain compliance with environmental health and safety requirements as applicable.
• Stay current on changes to OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and Ohio employment safety regulations.

Fleet Safety Responsibilities

• Manage and support the company's fleet safety program for commercial and non-commercial vehicles operating throughout Ohio.
• Ensure compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Ohio Highway Patrol (OHP), Ohio Department of Transportation and Ohio regulations.
• Monitor driver qualification files, motor vehicle records (MVRs), licensing requirements, medical certifications, and Hours of Service compliance as applicable.
• Coordinate fleet inspections, preventive maintenance schedules, and vehicle safety inspections.
• Investigate vehicle accidents and implement corrective action plans.
• Administer defensive driving and fleet safety training.
• Monitor telematics, driver behavior, and vehicle safety performance metrics.
• Ensure compliance with cargo securement requirements applicable to steel transportation.
