Job summary

Champion Home Builders is seeking a Safety Coordinator to plan, direct, and implement the company safety program across its operations. The role involves training managers and employees, enforcing OSHA compliance, and coordinating investigations into accidents and hazards.

The ideal candidate will have an Associate’s degree in Safety or related field, relevant housing industry experience, and strong communication and leadership skills to work with senior leadership and site teams.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and implement safety programs to ensure a safe work environment.

  • Investigate accidents and hazards and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Inspect facilities for safety hazards and ensure preventive measures are applied.
  • Maintain safety records and reports for regulatory agencies.

Job Title: Safety Coordinator

Reports To: Production Manager

FLSA Status: Non Exempt

Summary

Plans, directs, and implements the organization's safety program to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident free work environment by performing the following duties personally or through supervisors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.
  • Prepares studies and analyses of industrial accidents causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.
  • Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accidents and health hazards, determines corrective or preventiative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Provides information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
  • Leads the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
  • Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Oversees the administration of the workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time.
  • Prepares and arranges safety exhibits and materials for display, promotional work, industry conferences, and exhibitions
  • Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs
  • Maintains safety files and records, both written and electronic.

Qualifications

  • Manufacturing experience prefered
  • Ability to work with a senior leadership team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, employees, and vendors.
  • Personal integrity and able to perform all job responsibilities in an ethical and non-discriminatory manner.
  • Ability to retain confidential information.
  • Problem-solving and reasoning ability to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and can effectively communicate with all levels within the organization, customers, and corporate officials.
  • Determination and assertiveness to accomplish goals and objectives.

Safety and Security

Observes safety and security procedures; Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly.

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; four to five years related experience and/or training in the housing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
