Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking an Assistant Safety Manager to lead safety and health programs at the facility. You will work with Operations and Maintenance to design, implement, and enforce safety initiatives across the site.

The role requires strong OSHA knowledge, a safety leadership background, and the ability to train and influence a wide range of audiences, from hourly staff to executives. A safety-focused culture and incident prevention are core targets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Health/Safety or commensurate safety leadership experience.
• Certification or Associate Safety Professional status - preferred.
• 2+ years of safety professional experience in a manufacturing operation.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulatory programs.
• Process Safety Management experience - Preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to assign priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be able to make effective presentations to diverse audiences.
• Strong PC skills.
• Ability to interpret accident investigations to prevent recurrence.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety initiatives and ensure compliance with safety and health regulations and corporate requirements.
• Participate in post-injury case management and audit preparation.
• Provide safety training and information to managers and employees.
• Develop measures and practices to prevent accidents and ensure OSHA compliance.
• Influence leaders and employees to foster a safety-first culture.
• Audit mill conditions and initiate corrective actions as needed.
• Assist with disaster recovery planning and liaison with authorities.
• Support annual safety improvement planning and SES implementation.
