Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Health and Safety Manager in Covington, VA. You will lead the site's safety strategy, champion a world-class safety culture, and drive continuous improvement programs that protect people while supporting operational performance.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will develop leaders, engage frontline teams, manage a safety team, and ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, and company standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in safety, engineering, industrial hygiene, or a related technical field.
• Minimum 8+ years of progressive safety leadership experience in heavy manufacturing or similar industrial environments.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management systems.
• Ability to articulate complex regulatory requirements clearly.
• Experience leading safety teams and driving measurable improvements.

Responsibilities

• Lead Safety Strategy & Culture: develop and execute the site safety strategy, metrics, and improvement initiatives.
• Partner with Operations: engage field teams, coach leaders, assess risk, and integrate safety into daily operations.
• Develop People & Build Capability: coach safety professionals and coordinate site safety training.
• Drive Compliance & Organizational Learning: ensure OSHA/NFPA/ANSI compliance and lead investigations.
