Job summary

The City of Greenville seeks a seasoned Safety and Training Manager for its Public Works department. Under limited direction, you will develop and oversee comprehensive safety and training programs, including CDL training, incident investigations, and policy development, aligning with OSHA, SCDOT, FMCSA, and City requirements.

You will lead a team, coordinate with department managers, and drive continuous safety improvements across workplaces, vehicles, and equipment, ensuring regulatory

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, environmental health, risk management, or a related field.
• Documented work experience may be substituted for the required education on a two-for-one basis.
• Over four years of progressively responsible experience in workplace safety, safety inspection, safety training, compliance, CDL or heavy equipment operations, or related field.
• Experience administering safety or training programs.
• Must have or obtain OSHA 30-Hour certification within one year of hire.
• Must have or obtain SCDMV Third-Party Tester/Examiner certification within one year of hire and maintain certification thereafter.
• Must have or obtain CPR and First Aid certification within six months of hire.
• Must obtain required Incident Command System/FEMA training for emergency operations within departmental timeframes.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve comprehensive safety and training programs for Public Works.
• Conduct inspections of sites, facilities, vehicles, and equipment to identify hazards and regulatory deficiencies.
• Administer accident/incident investigations, document findings, and recommend corrective actions.
• Supervise assigned staff, provide leadership, and ensure licensing/certifications are current.
• Manage CDL training and Third-Party testing, maintain records, and coordinate audits with SCDMV.
• Develop, update, and enforce safety policies, procedures, and training materials.
