Job summary

CJ Schwan’s is hiring at its Pasadena and Deer Park plants for a safety-focused role. The position requires conducting daily safety walkthroughs, inspections, and hazard reporting, along with assisting on new-hire safety onboarding and trainings.

Responsibilities include participating in safety committee meetings, maintaining postings, tracking near misses, and supporting Lockout/Tagout procedures and JSA development. Strong bilingual abilities and good communication are a plus.

Qualifications

• Production experience preferred.
• Intermediate PC skills including Microsoft Office.
• Strong communication and reasoning skills; ability to write routine reports.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily safety walkthroughs, informal safety inspections, and audits across work areas to identify hazards or unsafe behaviors.
• Assist in onboarding new hires by presenting safety orientation materials and reviewing site safety policies.
• Attend safety committee meetings, take notes, and assist with agendas and action item summaries.
• Perform routine safety inspections on eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, emergency exits, spill kits, and other safety equipment; document findings and report deficiencies.
• Support the contractor safety program, including conducting safety briefings and ensuring documentation is on file before work begins.
• Track near-miss reports and assist in follow-up actions or investigations.
• Report employee safety concerns and suggest improvements to management and the safety team.
• Help maintain safety postings and boards; ensure they are current and compliant.
• Perform data entry and recordkeeping for inspections, permits, training, and reports.
• Assist with safety trainings and daily pre-work safety talks.
• Help create/update Lockout/Tagout procedures and Job Safety Analyses.
• Provide general support to site security on safety matters.

The position is primarily scheduled for standard business hours; however, flexibility is required to occasionally work evenings or weekends as needed.

Starting Pay Rate: $17.00

Location: Must be available to work at both our Pasadena and Deer Park plants as needed

Preferred Qualifications

Years of Related Experience: Production experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Intermediate personal computer skills including Microsoft Office. Strong communication skills. and reasoning skills to provide a positive work environment. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Bilingual language skills in English and Spanish.
