Job summary

Springfield Public Schools is seeking a Safety & Security Specialist (Central Office Receptionist) to support the Director of Safety and Security in protecting students, staff, and property. Responsibilities include front-desk duties, CORI/SORI processing, and incident coordination within a district office setting.

The role requires 1–2 years of relevant experience and an associate degree; bilingual preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual candidate preferred.
  • Requires at least 1–2 years of experience in the field.
  • Relevant associate degree required, or educational requirement may be substituted for at least 3 years of experience in relevant field.
  • Office/clerical experience preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional customer service by answering the district main telephone line, greeting and signing in visitors, directing guests to appropriate locations.
  • Co-manage CORI, SORI, and fingerprinting processes.
  • Process driver history record requests as needed.
  • Enter and process requisitions and purchase orders through the MUNIS system.
  • Review, archive, retrieve, and produce video footage for law enforcement and court related requests.
  • Update the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) annually to support safety initiatives.
  • Produce and distribute staff identification badges.
  • Utilize access control system to manage building access.
  • Perform administrative and clerical duties including records, statistics, spreadsheets, and calls.
  • Interact professionally with staff, students, families, visitors, and the public.
  • De-escalate and resolve challenging interactions with visitors and callers.

This position performs a variety of clerical tasks; and provides customer service, which includes operating switchboard, assisting and directing visitors and clerical work.

  • Provide professional customer service by answering the Springfield Public Schools Department main telephone line, greeting and signing in visitors, directing guests to appropriate locations, and providing accurate and helpful information.
  • Co-manage the district’s CORI, SORI, and fingerprinting processes, ensuring procedures are completed accurately and in accordance with district requirements.
  • Process driver history record requests as needed.
  • Enter and process requisitions and purchase orders through the district’s MUNIS financial management system.
  • Review, archive, retrieve, and produce video footage for law enforcement and court related requests.
  • Update the district’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) annually to support safety and emergency preparedness initiatives.
  • Produce and distribute staff identification badges.
  • Utilize the district’s access control system to assign, modify, and maintain building access for authorized individuals.

  • Provide administrative and operational coverage for the Safety and Security Office as needed.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office applications to complete administrative, organizational, and reporting responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attend required staff development programs, training sessions, and professional learning opportunities.
  • Assist with the daily administrative and operational functions of the department.

Pay Range $43,650-$57,737

Physical Requirements

This position requires employee be in an office, school, and outdoor environment. Employee is frequently exposed to individuals who are rude or irate and is occasionally exposed to individuals with known violent backgrounds.
