Job summary

Lamar Consolidated ISD seeks a Safety and Security Specialist to protect the educational environment by mitigating unsafe conditions and preventing property loss.

Under general supervision, you will respond to emergencies, enforce safety rules, assist administrators, and maintain secure campuses across district facilities.

This role requires 1–3 years of related experience, a high school diploma, Texas driver's license, and willingness to work varied hours.

Responsibilities

• Notify police, fire, EMS, or other authorities in emergencies.
• Assist campus administration and emergency responders.
• Adhere to district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Assist with enforcing student safety regulations.
• Build professional relationships with students and staff to maintain safe learning environments.
• Assist visitors with directions and explanations.
• Respond to fights or safety threats to ensure campus safety.
• Provide safety support at events and after-hours activities.
• Restore order and discipline as needed.
• Report rule offenders to school authorities.
• Monitor premises and report safety concerns to administrators.
• Report broken into buildings or damaged property.
• Know and practice proper safety techniques in lifting, climbing, etc.
• Report unsafe conditions to supervisor immediately.
• Attendance at work is an essential function.
• Other duties as assigned.

POSITION TITLE: Safety and Security Specialist

Primary Purpose

Under general supervision, to serve and protect the educational process by assisting with and ensuring a safe, secure, clean, and professional educational environment of excellence mitigating unsafe/unsecure conditions, behaviors, or property loss due to theft, damage, or vandalism.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 1. Notify the police, fire department, EMS, or other appropriate authority of any situation requiring emergency response or immediate attention.
• 2. Assist campus administration, police, and/or emergency responders in emergencies.
• 3. Adhere to district safety response protocols, safety guidelines, and emergency procedures.
• 4. Assist school administration with enforcing student safety regulations.
• 5. Build positive and professional relationships with students and staff leveraging these relationships to establish and maintain productive and safe learning environments and common areas of the campus.
• 6. Assist visitors by giving directions, needed explanations, or by acting as a guide to authorized visitors.
• 7. Actively respond to fights or other activity that threaten the safety or security of students, staff, and/or guests.
• 8. Provide safety and security support at assigned or scheduled athletic events, extracurricular activities, after hours campus events, and/or district events.
• 9. Restore order and discipline wherever deployed.
• 10. Report school rule offenders to school authorities.
• 11. Monitor school premises for safety concerns and report to appropriate administrator.
• 12. Report open and/or broken into buildings or damaged property to designated personnel.
• 13. Know and practice the proper safety techniques in lifting, climbing, and performing other job duties.
• 14. Correct any unsafe conditions that may exist in the work area. Any conditions that are not correctable by you are to be reported to the supervisor immediately.
• 15. Attendance at work is an essential function.
• 16. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.

EXPERIENCE:

• One to three years of experience in a related field

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma
• Valid Texas driver's license
• Eligible for coverage under the District's vehicle insurance program

Special Knowledge Skills:

• Desire and ability to work with students and juvenile aged children
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Ability to document information clearly and accurately
• Ability to communicate professionally and effectively (written and verbally)
• Demonstrated knowledge of safety and physical security measures and their application

OTHER INFORMATION:

Equipment Used:

Standard office equipment including computer, phone, and peripherals, two-way radio, District vehicle/golf cart, alarm systems, fire extinguishers and security equipment.

Working Conditions

Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control and professionalism under stress; prolonged hours; on call 24 hours a day, prolonged standing, strenuous walking and/or climbing of stairs, specific hearing and visual requirements, control of sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others, rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds), work inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun, heat, cold, ice and inclement weather), flexibility of assignment to various campuses.
