Smithsonian Institution seeks a Safety and Occupational Health Manager to develop, coordinate, and implement a comprehensive safety program across museums, centers, and leased facilities.
GS-12/GS-13 levels involve serving as technical expert and advisor, developing training curricula, and investigating incidents to drive corrective actions, with nationwide and global reach within the SI network.
The Safety and Occupational Health Manager is responsible for developing, planning, coordinating, and implementing a comprehensive occupational safety program.

Major study -- safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
Experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include:
Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Health Physicist (CHP), or similar certification that included successful completion of a written examination meets the requirements for GS-5. Applicants may also qualify for higher grade levels based on their education and/or experience.
GS-12: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as planning and implementing occupational safety program requirements for a variety of work activities and environments; reviewing and providing guidance on occupational safety policies, procedures, and guidelines; and investigating accidents, incidents, and reports of unsafe or unhealthful working conditions.
GS-13: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as developing, planning, coordinating, and implementing occupational safety program requirements for a variety of work activities and environments; providing technical guidance and recommendations on occupational safety policies, procedures, and guidelines; analyzing injury and illness trends to identify areas of increased risk and recommend corrective actions; and investigating accidents, incidents, and reports of unsafe or unhealthful conditions.
