About This Position

Phoenix Water Services provides water and wastewater services in an area of approximately 540 square miles and for a population of approximately 1,500,000. This is accomplished through the hard work of nearly 1,500 employees, who carefully manage our major assets, including 7 water treatment plants, nearly 300 pumps, wells, lifts, and pressure stations, 7,000 miles of water main, 5,000 miles of sewer main, 52,000 fire hydrants, and 94,000 manholes. The Phoenix City Council acts as trustee of our community water system.

About This Position

This is accomplished through the hard work of nearly 1,500 employees, who carefully manage our major assets, including 7 water treatment plants, nearly 300 pumps, wells, lifts, and pressure stations, 7,000 miles of water main, 5,000 miles of sewer main, 52,000 fire hydrants, and 94,000 manholes. The Phoenix City Council acts as trustee of our community water system. The Water Services Department is seeking a Safety Analyst I. The Safety Analyst I (SAI) will join a roughly 20-member professional safety staff and an onsite 3-member safety team to coordinate environmental, health, and safety efforts with peers and other WSD Divisions at the facility. The SAI will report to a Safety Analyst II and works independently or in groups on assigned work orders, safety and environmental programs, training, and special projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Builds positive trusted relationships with clients and Team Members at all levels of the organization.
• Assists in developing, implementing, and conducting safety policies, procedures, training, accident investigations, pursuant to federal occupational safety, motor carrier, environmental, fire, and OSHA rules and regulation (such as Lock-Out/Tag-Out/Try-Out, waste disposal, confined space, HAZCOM, trenching and shoring, emergency preparedness, response, and drills, respiratory programs, and incident investigations
• Collaborates with other departments, consultants, contractors, vendors, and third -party services.

• Posses a self starting attitude to identify and complete tasks autonomously with minimal supervision.
• Knowledgeable in the practical application of OSHA and EPA rules and regulations.
• Skills and abilities to integrate into an already successful onsite team.
• Ability to interpret those regulations for everyday activities.

SALARY

Pay Range: $32.46 to $47.95 per hour.

Hiring Range: $32.46 to $41.42 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications

• One year of experience in accident prevention or loss control programs.
• Bachelor's degree in safety management or a related field.
• Positions in this classification may require a Class A CDL and the use of personal or City vehicles on City business.
• Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess an appropriate valid Arizona driver's license, possess personal insurance coverage, and have an acceptable driving record.
• Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
• Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.
• All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
• This position requires the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
• In addition, individuals may be required to pass an Arizona Department of Transportation physical exam. Pre-employment drug testing is required for C.D.L. positions. Employees in C.D.L. positions will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.

Preferred Qualifications

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Professional safety certifications and/or training.
• Experience in/with the following:
• Accident prevention; occupational safety and training; and motor vehicle safety programs.
• Conducting job-site safety and environmental inspections with documentation.
• A water/wastewater, underground utilities, construction, or industrial setting.
• Equipment used for respirator fit testing and air monitoring.
• Researching and drafting safety policies and procedures.
• Program implementation and management.
• Providing training in field settings.
