Job summary

Washington County Public Schools is seeking a School Bus Driver to transport students across Western Heights Middle, Maugansville Elementary, North Hagerstown High, Ruth Ann Monroe Primary and Eastern Elementary Schools. The role runs about 5.5 hours per day within a 10-month work year and reports to the Supervisor of Transportation.

Ideal candidates have a valid CDL, a clean driving record, and are committed to safety, reliability, and punctuality.

Qualifications

• Meet all licensing requirements of the Motor Vehicle Administration for CDL.
• Meet all requirements of COMAR 13A.06.07 for School Bus Driver.
• Have not more than two points on driving record and a satisfactory past driving record.
• Complete MSDE required pre-service instruction.
• No criminal record that makes applicant unfit for employment as school bus driver.
• Must be 21 years of age to operate a school bus.
• Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
• Pass MVA physical exam for school bus drivers.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for pupil accountability.
• Obey all traffic laws.
• Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
• Maintain discipline when students are on bus.
• Report undisciplined students to proper authority.
• Keep assigned bus clean.
• Keep to assigned schedule.
• Perform pre-trip inspection prior to each route.
• Perform post-trip inspection after each route.
• Notify proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
• Discharge students only at authorized stops.
• Exercise leadership on school trips.
• Transport only authorized students.
• Report all accidents immediately and complete required reports.
• Enforce rules and regulations for students riding the bus.
• Operate bus per WCPS Bus Drivers Handbook.
