Job summary

Semgrep is hiring a Corporate Counsel to drive commercial transactions and build scalable legal processes for a fast-growing, AI-native software company. The role reports to the COO and collaborates with the Fractional General Counsel and Legal Innovation and Contracts Manager.

Qualifications

• J.D. and active membership in at least one US state bar (CA preferred).
• 3–6 years of legal experience in SaaS or technology (in-house or law firm).
• Understanding of data privacy, data security, AI, IP law.
• Experience with developer tools, cybersecurity, open-source software.
• Able to operate independently, own outcomes, and drive agreements to execution.
• Strong business judgment with pragmatic guidance in fast-moving environments.
• History implementing AI-based processes and legal tech is preferred.
• Comfort with ambiguity and rapid growth, cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead negotiation and execution of customer and vendor agreements (SaaS, MSAs, DPAs, NDAs, procurement).
• Advise internal stakeholders balancing legal risk with business priorities.
• Define commercial legal operations: workflows, templates, playbooks, approvals.
• Evaluate and implement AI in legal workflows (contract review, knowledge mgmt).
• Advise on SaaS, data privacy, data security, AI, and IP issues.
• Support Product, Security, and Engineering on legal/compliance considerations.
• Stay current on evolving AI, security, open-source regulations.
