Job summary

Brooks Running seeks a Master's graduate intern for the Run Research Lab in Seattle. You will assist in biomechanical data collection and processing to inform product design, materials, and development.

You will gain hands-on experience with motion capture, material testing, and data analytics while presenting findings to senior leadership at internship end.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field and evidence of graduate-level research.
  • Experience with biomechanical data collection and analysis.
  • Strong Python coding skills for data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Understand athletic product design features and how they influence movement.
  • Collect and process human subject data using Motion Analysis 3D motion capture.
  • Write code to analyze mechanical and biomechanical data in Python or Visual 3D.
  • Perform mechanical testing on material samples and full shoes (Instron).
  • Prepare scientific reports in PowerPoint and Word, summarizing findings for product teams.
  • Apply graduate-level research to develop innovative testing procedures.
  • Mine data from dashboards to suggest product improvements.

Brooks Internship Program

Brooks Running hosts internships at our Seattle HQ offices to provide hands-on,meaningful work experience to further enhance your education and professional aptitude. Our interns gain exposure to real work, and projects while working side by side with Brooks employees and leadership. If chosen for this role, you will embark on 6 months of learning, professional development, and exposure to the Brooks brand and culture.

Internship Details

Duration: 6 months

Internship Target Start: Jan 4, Jan 11, or Jan 18.

Compensation: $ 33.00/hr.

Location: Seattle, HQ Schedule: 40 hours / week

Your Opportunity

The mission of the Brooks Run Research Lab is to create and leverage novel, scientific concepts and runner-driven product performance insights to create amazing products to help everyone run their path.

Our Run Research Lab is seeking a Master's graduate intern to work at our Seattle HQ offices. As a Run Research performance Intern, you will gain hands‑on experience in product research at the leading running brand – Brooks Sports, Inc. Your primary responsibilities will be to assist in biomechanical data collection and processing for Run Research that will be used to inform product design, materials, and development.

The protocols will include but are not limited to motion capture, material mechanical properties, and metabolic testing. This information is critical for our multi‑departmental infrastructure, including Development, Design, and Merchandising, to ensure that the performance integrity of our product meets the needs of our end consumers. You will also gain knowledge on how the human movement influences the design and development of athletic products at Brooks.

Your Impact (Responsibilities)
  • Understand athletic product design features and components and how they influence human movement.
  • Collection and processing of human subject data using Motion Analysis 3D motion capture.
  • Write code to analyze mechanical and biomechanical data in Python or Visual 3D.
  • Perform mechanical testing on material samples and full shoes (Instron).
  • Write scientific reports in PowerPoint and Microsoft Word. Summarize human movement and mechanical property findings for Brooks product and competitors that are delivered to product teams for use in product improvement.
  • Use your graduate‑level research skills to conduct human movement studies that lead to innovative testing procedures and optimization of products for all who run.
  • Use your advanced data analytics skills to mine data in our historical dashboards to recommend product improvements based on identified opportunities.
  • Develop loyal, engaging relationships with our customers and the Brooks community.
  • Other duties as assigned
Project:
  • As a part of your experience as a graduate intern at Brooks, you will have the opportunity to complete a project under the support and supervision of your manager. Details of your project will be finalized once you arrive at Brooks based on your skills and the needs of the business. You will use your ever-growing analytical skillset as a graduate student to prepare a thoughtful and elevated project. During the course of this project, you will weave your learnings from your graduate courses into your work to challenge yourself, and benefit Brooks. You will present your work and findings to senior leadership at Brooks at the end of your internship, to hone in on your research, recommendation, and presentation skills.
