Job summary

The Ohio State University is seeking an Assistant Manager for MALC Ruminant Operations and Meat Laboratory Operations. This role combines management of beef and small ruminant herds with teaching, research, and outreach support within FAES and Agricultural Operations Administration.

You will assist with breeding programs, record-keeping, compliance with IACUC/AAALAC/USDA, and coordination of daily operations across facilities, including student staff supervision.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 4+ years in farm operations
  • Or bachelor's in related field with 2+ years in farm operations
  • Hands-on experience working with livestock and farm operations
  • Ability to work in both office and farm settings, including all weather conditions

Responsibilities

  • Assist with beef and small ruminant herd management at MALC and satellite herd
  • Support breeding programs, calving and lambing schedules, and genetic improvement
  • Maintain records related to animal health, production, breeding, inventory, and research activities
  • Ensure compliance with IACUC, AAALAC, and USDA regulations
  • Follow animal care standards, biosecurity protocols, and environmental regulations
  • Assist with inventories of feed, medications, equipment, and supplies
  • Track expenditures and identify opportunities for operational efficiencies
  • Assist with onboarding, recruiting, training, and support to student employees
  • Coordinate daily operations supporting teaching, Extension, and research programs
  • Provide backup support for other operations managers during absences
