Job summary

Draper in Cambridge, MA is seeking an experienced Cable Harness and Interconnect Design Engineer to lead early-stage development of rugged interconnects for defense, space and autonomous platforms.

You'll design wiring harnesses, cabling, and connector systems, collaborate across electrical and mechanical teams, apply MIL-STD and IPC standards, produce 3D CAD models and drawings, and support manufacturing through prototype to delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Master's degree preferred.
• 3–5 years mechanical design experience; 0–3 years with a master's degree.

Responsibilities

• Design high-reliability cable harnesses, interconnects, and connector assemblies.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers to define requirements.
• Apply MIL-STD connectors, IPC Class 2 & 3 standards, and relevant industry specs.
• Perform trade studies, tolerance analyses, and material selection to optimize reliability and performance.
• Generate detailed 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and documentation to support manufacturing.
• Collaborate with production teams and suppliers to validate designs and resolve non-conformances.
