Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking an experienced RTL Engineer in Idaho/Boise. The role focuses on designing complex analog and digital circuits, leading hardware reviews, and developing system-level specifications.

You will mentor engineers, coordinate multiple projects, and contribute to comprehensive test plans while collaborating within a strong engineering team. SEL supports employee ownership and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years in at least two areas: digital design with microprocessors and FPGAs; simulation, synthesis, timing analysis; verification and validation.

Responsibilities

  • Invent and analyze complex analog/digital circuits to meet specs.
  • Lead hardware design reviews to demonstrate robustness.
  • Develop hardware and system level specifications of moderate complexity.
  • Write and review test plans; supervise testing; review results.
  • Lead engineers and technicians; mentor and coach others.
  • Prepare and maintain project plans; provide labor estimates.
  • Lead multiple projects and participate in executive project processes.

Job description

As a RTL Engineer, a typical day might include the following:
  • Invents, analyzes and designs complex analog and digital circuits to meet specifications. Lead hardware
  • design reviews to demonstrate product and circuit robustness.
  • Leads in the development of hardware and system level specifications of moderate complexity.
  • Writes and reviews test plans, executes or supervises testing, evaluates and reviews test results for use in
  • peer reviews and for project notebooks.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate project or program plans. Provides detailed labor estimates.
  • Leads multiple projects or programs of moderate complexity. Participates in the executive project processes.
  • Leads engineers, associate engineers, and technicians in the product development processes. Mentors and
  • coaches other engineers.
  • Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
  • Other duties as assigned.
This job might be for you if:
  • You have a B.S./M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Typically 8+ years of experience in at least 2 of the following areas:
  • -- Digital design with microprocessors and FPGAs
  • -- Simulation, Synthesis and Timing Analysis
  • -- Verification and Validation
  • You have demonstrated ability to mentor others
  • You have strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • You have the ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • You have the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Supervisory experience or training
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: Digital Signal Processing, control Systems, 3-phase and electric power systems, Electric utility telecommunications
  • Strong project management knowledge and skills
Pay Range Data

Development Lead Hardware Engineer $136,080 - $201,050. We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the pay range may differ if filled at a different level. Our pay ranges are determined by job and responsibility. We base our starting pay offer and title on job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
