Job summary

The City of Port Aransas is seeking a reliable Minibus Driver to support safe passenger transportation on a full-time schedule. You will conduct pre/post-trip checks, maintain vehicle cleanliness, collect fares, assist riders, and respond to emergencies while following dispatch directions.

Requirements include a Texas driver license with a clean record, willingness to obtain CDL Class A with passenger endorsement, and a strong customer-service mindset in a dynamic road environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; driving experience preferred.
  • Valid Texas Driver License; clean driving record and criminal history.
  • Must be able to obtain CDL Class A with passenger endorsement.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure proper operating condition of the vehicle and on-board equipment.
  • Ensure safe and clean vehicle condition at the start and end of each shift.
  • Ensure vehicle is fueled, properly maintained and stocked with the proper accessories at the start and end of each shift.
  • Successfully perform scheduled manifest by picking up all clients on time and delivering them to their destinations safely and within a reasonable time frame according to the assigned schedule.
  • Provide excellent customer service including assistance in boarding, supplying information, and responding appropriately in the event of emergency.
  • Protect passengers and secure vehicle in the event of accident or injury and communicate effectively with dispatch and operations staff.

Description

Drives minibus to provide the safe transportation of passengers and by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure proper operating condition of the vehicle and on-board equipment.
  • Ensure safe and clean vehicle condition at the start and end of each shift.
  • Ensure vehicle is fueled, properly maintenance and stocked with the proper accessories at the start and end of each shift.
  • Successfully perform scheduled manifest by picking up all clients on time and delivering them to their destinations safely and within a reasonable time frame according to the assigned schedule.
  • Provide excellent customer service including assistance in boarding, supplying information, and responding appropriately in the event of emergency.
  • Ensure passengers' wheelchairs are safely secured by appropriate on-board restraints to stabilize wheelchairs during trip.
  • Keeps documentation of mileage, passenger information, time of pickups and drop-offs.
  • Adjusts to variables in normal working conditions, including adverse weather, traffic and construction, passenger problems, accidents and trip changes.
  • Diffuse difficult situations and maintain order onboard vehicle.
  • Accurately collect and reconcile cash fares collected from customers.
  • Employ all techniques of defensive driving to minimize the risk of preventable and non-preventable accidents and/or passenger injuries.
  • Protect passengers and secure vehicle in the event of accident or injury and communicate effectively with dispatch and operations staff.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); previous professional driving experience preferred and customer service experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience; safe driving record and clean criminal history.

Language Skills

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers; ability to print and speak in simple sentences.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 1O's and 1OO's; ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions; ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Texas Driver License in good standing; must be able to obtain CDL Class A with passenger endorsement; must be willing to take RTA special training.

Employee will primarily work on the road providing passenger transportation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Benefits

All bus drivers are considered full time at 30 hours per week. All bus drivers will be eligible for full City benefits including retirement and insurance benefits.
