Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to assess patients' respiratory care needs, plan and evaluate treatments, and optimize the patient/family experience. The role involves documenting assessments, establishing care plans, and working with the care team on both invasive and non-invasive therapies.

ACLS, BLS, NRP and PALS certifications are required. Hours include 7am-7:30pm and 11am-7:30pm, with every other weekend and holiday.

Qualifications

• Consistently performs and documents thorough patient assessments.
• Establishes appropriate care plans.
• Communicates with other members of the patient care team.
• Performs and documents routine therapeutic modalities including aerosolized medications, secretion management techniques, pulmonary volume expansion, oxygen therapy, and assists with artificial airways.
• Initiates and manages mechanical ventilators according to protocol.
• Provides age-appropriate patient and family education on disease management.
• Assists in intra-hospital transport of mechanically ventilated patients.
• Responsible for acute airway management in emergent situations.
• Sets up non-invasive monitoring (ETCO monitors, pulse oximeters).
• Assists with discharge planning for patients needing respiratory-related DME, following insurance guidelines.
• Adheres to regulatory requirements and safety standards.
• Adheres to institutional and national standards of care.
• Collects arterial blood gas samples and processes them with point-of-care analyzers.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient information per HIPAA and regulations.
• Functions as Shift Coordinator when designated after one year.
