Job summary

HCA Houston Healthcare West in Houston, TX is seeking a PRN Respiratory Therapist to join our busy hospital. You will guide patients through routine and critical moments, perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and manage ventilation across care settings.

This role offers access to advanced respiratory technology, mentorship from RT leaders, and a supportive, collaborative team. Eligibility includes associates degree and NBRC/Texas licensure, with BLS/ACLS; PALS preferred.

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent required.
  • Registered NBRC certification and current Texas licensure required; BLS and ACLS required.
  • PALS certification preferred.
  • Unit-specific clinical experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess respiratory status and determine need for interventions.
  • Deliver evidence-based therapy across emergency, critical care, and acute settings.
  • Manage ventilation and airway support, including invasive and noninvasive ventilation.
  • Educate patients and families; collaborate with physicians and nurses.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure infection-prevention standards.

Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Respiratory Therapist,you’llplay an essential role in guiding patients through both routine care and critical moments.You’llperform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures while managing invasive and noninvasive ventilation across a variety of care settings.You’llhave access to advanced respiratory technology, mentorship from experienced RT leaders, and the support of a dependable, collaborative team that will set you up for success and ongoing professional growth. Your role will include:

  • Assessing respiratory statusby performing focused exams, interpreting breath sounds and airway patency, anddeterminingthe need for respiratory interventions.
  • Deliveringevidence-based therapyby providing oxygen support, aerosolized medications, airway clearance techniques, and other treatments across emergency, critical care, and acute settings.
  • Managing ventilation and airwaysbyassistingwith artificial airway placement,initiatingand adjusting invasive and noninvasive ventilation,monitoringpatientresponses, and responding quickly to clinical changes or emergencies.
  • Supporting patients and the care teamby educating patients and families, serving as a clinical resource, partnering with physicians and nurses, and helping stabilize newborns during deliveries when needed.
  • Maintainingequipment and safetyby setting up,operating, and cleaning respiratory equipment; ensuring readiness and preventive maintenance; transporting ventilated patients safely; and following all infection-prevention standards.
What qualifications you will need:
  • Education required and/or preferred:

    REQUIRED: Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent from two (2) year college

    Licensure/Certification

    REQUIRED: Registered Certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care and Current Texas licensure for Respiratory Care Practitioner, BLS and ACLS required.

    PREFERRED: PALS. Certification

    Experience required or preferred:

    Required: Unit specific clinical experience preferred
