Job summary

HCA Houston Healthcare West Seeks a Respiratory Therapist (CRT) to assess and deliver comprehensive respiratory care across neonate to geriatric patients. You will manage bronchodilators, oxygen therapy, and ventilator support under supervision, ensuring safety and adherence to orders.

Responsibilities include verifying orders, maintaining devices and procedures, and preventing infection while applying ABG analysis and airway management techniques as needed.

Qualifications

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • NBRC-CRT Certified Respiratory Therapist credential required.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates, assesses, and evaluates respiratory therapy including bronchodilators, chest PT, oxygen therapy, and ventilator care.
  • Verifies and signs all new orders for respiratory care.
  • Recognizes, interprets, and records signs and respiratory status.
  • Initiates and maintains cardiopulmonary support as ordered.
  • Prevents contamination and transfer of infection.
  • Operates ventilation equipment and ensures safe use of respiratory gases and humidification.
  • Performs airway maintenance including endotracheal and tracheotomy care.
  • Assists in arterial blood gas analysis and specimen collection.
  • Uses techniques to aid secretion clearance (hydration, chest physiotherapy, postural drainage, suctioning).
  • Extubation procedures and post-extubation care are performed as required.
  • Monitors safety and equipment operation, addressing hazards.

Job Summary and Qualifications

Under general supervision initiates, assesses, and evaluates all forms of respiratory therapy including bronchodilators, chest physical therapy, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive and invasive ventilator care. Exercises technical knowledge in respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathology as well as the design and operations of all respiratory therapy equipment. The RCP demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adult and geriatric patients.

  • To know and understand the objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Verifies and signs all new orders for respiratory care.
  • Assures that all physiciansResponsible for the recognition, interpretation, and recording of signs and

  • Responsible for knowing the mechanics of ventilation and ventilatorfunction.

  • The effective and safe use of equipment for administering oxygen and other
  • therapeutic gases and for providing humidification, nebulization, and medication.
  • To know and understand the principles of arterial blood gas analysis, acid-base
  • balance and demonstrated competence in obtaining arterial blood gas samples.
  • To know and understand the methods that assist in the removal of secretions
  • from the bronchial tree, such as hydration, breathing and coughing exercises,
  • postural drainage, therapeutic percussion and vibration, and mechanical clearing
  • of the airway through proper suctioning technique.
  • Responsible for procedures and observation to be followed during and after extubating.
  • Responsible for the recognition of and attention to the psychosocial needsof patients and their families.
  • To know the operating principles of the equipment and all safety aspects
  • related to equipment and gases, including the control of electrical, flammable, explosive, and mechanical hazards.
