Job summary

Programmers.io is seeking a mid-level RPG Programmer / IBM i (AS/400) System Administrator to help support our IBM Power Systems environment (Power 10 & Power 11). The role blends programming with system administration and operations in a production setting, onsite in Greensboro, NC.

You will administer IBM i, develop RPG applications, monitor jobs and backups, manage BRMS and DR, and collaborate with network teams to ensure reliable operations.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of IBM i (AS/400) administration and operations experience.
• Expert RPG programming experience (RPG III/IV/ILE/Free-Form).
• Experience with IBM Navigator, ACS, IFS, FTP, and system monitoring.
• Knowledge of BRMS, backups, restores, user profiles, and audits.
• Experience supporting both legacy and modern IBM i environments.
• Strong problem-solving and multitasking abilities.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain IBM i Power 10 & 11 systems.
• Develop and enhance RPG applications (RPG III/IV/ILE/Free-Form).
• Monitor health, nightly jobs, backups, messages, and status.
• Manage BRMS, tape backups, restores, and DR processes.
• Support iTera data replication between IBM i systems.
• Perform OS updates, PTFs, and third-party upgrades.
• Participate in on-call rotation and provide operational support.
• Troubleshoot system, job, printer, and application issues.
• Collaborate with network and infra teams for integrated support.
