Job description

Vaco has partnered with a market-leading client to find a strong programmer capable of supporting their legacy RPG/iSeries environment. We seek someone with expertise in both iSeries V7R4 and V7R5, responsible for developing, configuring, coding, testing, and debugging complex software, including enhancements to existing proprietary or purchased software packages.

This role requires the ability to multi-task between resolving production issues and managing new work, while supporting functional users and the IT Business Systems team. You will assist in designing and documenting the application software environment and provide guidance and training to less experienced programmer/analysts. The environment is highly complex, requiring a strong knowledge of RPG.

Core Experience:

1. Extensive support experience for RPG applications on IBM iSeries (AS/400) systems.
2. Deep knowledge of iSeries environments, especially V7R4 and V7R5, focusing on stability and operational continuity.
3. Proficiency in maintaining and enhancing legacy RPG III/IV and Free Format RPG code.
4. Skills in troubleshooting, debugging, and resolving production issues with minimal downtime.
5. Understanding of CL programs, job scheduling, and batch processing on the IBM i platform.
6. Experience with DB2/400 databases, including data integrity, performance tuning, and query optimization.
7. Ability to collaborate effectively with operations, end users, and cross-functional teams.
8. Experience working with offshore teams is a plus.
