Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related field, plus three years in lead/supervisory roles.
• Demonstrated expertise in leading technical staff with WAN and optical networking focus.
• Ability to build a high-trust, psychologically safe team atmosphere.
• Ability to improve efficiency and effectiveness of a technical engineering team.
• Strong understanding of networking engineering/architecture, systems and services design.
• Ability to collaborate across multiple stakeholders and lead strategic initiatives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; proven hiring, training and mentoring experience.
• Experience developing and implementing network engineering processes and plans.

Responsibilities

• Provides day-to-day leadership for a team supporting ESnet's global routing and optical backbone.
• Builds a high-performing team culture and improves processes and practices.
• Ensures network operational excellence, outage response, and risk mitigation.
• Oversees projects by assigning resources, coordinating priorities, and driving execution.
• Supports budget planning, procurement forecasting, vendor relationships, and hiring.
