Job summary

GFiber, an Alphabet company, is seeking a Network Engineering Manager to lead the Core & Optical Transport team, supervising a nationwide multi-terabit backbone with emphasis on reliability, capacity planning, observability, and automation. You will remain hands-on in design and code while guiding a small team of engineers toward scalable solutions.

You will set strategic direction, balance priorities across teams, and drive the development of robust engineering goals to meet evolving

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years building large-scale infrastructure and networks with leadership.
  • Backbone experience across multi-vendor platforms (Juniper, Nokia, Cisco).
  • Optical transport design and operation of DWDM metro/long-haul networks.
  • Software engineering for automation in Go and/or Python.
  • Experience with modern observability and telemetry pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and review network designs to ensure best practices and resolve challenges.
  • Drive observability strategy and telemetry pipelines and tooling.
  • Plan and engineer metro and long-haul optical transport: capacity growth and DWDM modernization.
  • Set and communicate team priorities aligned with organizational goals.
  • Set clear expectations with individuals based on level and role.
  • Develop long-term technical goals and roadmap for the team.
