Qualifications

About the role

The ideal candidate is a hands‑on operational leader responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a high‑volume waste and recycling site, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant service delivery across residential, commercial, and roll‑off operations. This individual will bring strong leadership abilities, operational expertise, and a proactive management style focused on safety, productivity, employee development, regulatory compliance, and delivering exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage daily operations for a multi‑line waste services operation consisting of residential, commercial, and roll‑off routes.
  • Supervise and develop a team of approximately 25 employees, including frontline staff and drivers.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, coach, and evaluate employees and drivers to maintain a productive and engaged workforce.
  • Maintain a visible presence in the field by conducting regular ride‑alongs with drivers, performing route observations, and working alongside operations personnel to identify improvement opportunities, reinforce safety expectations, and provide real‑time coaching.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and all applicable federal, state/provincial, and local regulations.
  • Promote and maintain a strong culture of safety by conducting regular safety meetings, documenting attendance/topics, and ensuring employees follow safe work practices.
  • Develop and oversee preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime, control maintenance costs, and maximize operational efficiency.
  • Monitor labor utilization and ensure compliance with wage and hour regulations.
  • Maintain operational records, reports, and documentation accurately and timely.
  • Manage inventory levels for equipment, parts, supplies, and materials.
  • Operate equipment and support field operations as needed.
  • Partner with leadership to drive continuous improvement initiatives and achieve operational goals.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1-3+ years of experience in the waste industry preferred but not required, including landfill, transfer station, hauling, or recycling operations.
  • Hands‑on leadership style with the ability to conduct driver ride‑alongs, perform field observations, and support daily operations in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Minimum of 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience in an operations or industrial environment.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety procedures, operational manuals, routing reports, and company correspondence.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, solve problems, and perform effectively in a fast‑paced operational environment.
  • Working knowledge of safety regulations and operational best practices.
  • Ability to perform physical job duties, including lifting up to 35 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and balance throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding outdoor environments.
  • Strong visual and auditory abilities, including close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and focus adjustment.
