Position Title

Route Bus Driver

Preferred Qualifications

  • A physical as required certifying physically fit and capable of strenuous work including lifting
  • Must have a valid and current CDL Wyoming Driver's license with P/S endorsement OR the initiative and willingness to cooperate with BGH2 to earn these qualifications

Superintendent

Job Goal

Under the general supervision of the Director of Transportation to ensure the safe transportation of students in-between school and residential neighborhoods/country homes, as well as on activities and field trips.

Performance Responsibilities
Route Driving
  • Safely drives a school bus on days when school is in session over designated routes in accordance with time schedules—loading and unloading students at designated locations
  • Inspect assigned bus on a daily basis prior to transporting passengers to ensure that the bus is in good, clean and safe working order
  • Maintain order and discipline in an effective and courteous manner among students being transported in accordance with district policies and procedures; report any incidents involving student discipline following the appropriate procedures
  • Maintain a record of daily hours
  • Observe and track route timing, such as total time en‑route, time between stops, individual student stop location and loading and unloading times or any other requested information for the purpose of establishing route efficiency, as requested
Safety Procedures/Preparedness
  • Monitor weather and road conditions while conferencing with the Bus Manager to ensure that best travel procedures are followed
  • In case of accidents/emergencies ensure that medical emergency and evacuation procedures are followed
  • Prepare aides and children for bus drills and ensure bus evacuation drills are held as required
  • Follow procedures to ensure that no child is left alone on the bus without adult supervision at any time, and that all children have departed the bus at the end of all bus routes
Equipment
  • Inspect assigned bus on a daily basis prior to the transporting of passengers to ensure bus is in good, clean and safe working order
  • Clean and refuel buses as needed
  • Ensure that the assigned vehicle's communication device is in proper working order before each trip
  • Report all mechanical deficiencies, traffic violations, or accidents, promptly to the Bus Manager and the Transportation Director
  • Inventory bus emergency and first aid supplies and equipment; report needs to the Bus Manager
Additional Duties
  • Transports students, teachers and others on school field or activity trips
  • Attend and participate in trainings as well as other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities
  • Refer to the BGH2 Transportation Handbook for all other activity driving policies and procedures
