Job summary

Park County District No 6 is seeking a Route Bus Driver to transport students on scheduled routes and field trips in a timely and safe manner. The successful candidate will maintain vehicle safety, assist loading/unloading, and follow district policies.

This position reports to the Director of Transportation and requires a valid CDL Type B with PS endorsement, a minimum high school diploma, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Advises students on appropriate behavior to ensure safety.
  • Assess incidents and emergencies and recommend resolutions.
  • Assist students with safe loading/unloading from buses.
  • Attend trainings to maintain required certifications.
  • Clean and inspect vehicles to ensure safety and sanitation.
  • Conduct emergency evacuation drills as required.
  • Follow district routes and policies for stops and supervision.
  • Drive buses to transport passengers on routes and field trips.
  • Fuels and maintains vehicle readiness.
  • Communicate route conditions and events to stakeholders.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect student privacy.

The job of Bus Driver is done for the purpose/s of transporting students over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions in a timely manner; ensuring vehicle is in safe operating condition; and ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from buses.

Salary: $20.20 - $32.70/hour
Minimum 4 hours per day

The job of Bus Driver is done for the purpose/s of transporting students over scheduled routes and/or to/from special excursions in a timely manner; ensuring vehicle is in safe operating condition; and ensuring safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from buses.

This job reports to Director of Transportation

Essential Functions
  • Advises students and other passengers of appropriate behavior for the purpose of reinforcing regulations and maintaining passenger safety.
  • Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations for the purpose of resolving and/or recommending a resolution to the situation.
  • Assists students and other passengers for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from buses including both emergency situations and normal transport.
  • Attends meetings, training, etc. for the purpose of maintaining skills and meeting the certificate requirement/s of a school bus driver.
  • Cleans assigned vehicles, both interior and exterior, for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of vehicle.
  • Conducts emergency evacuation drills for the purpose of ensuring efficiency of procedures and complying with mandated requirements.
  • Discharges students only at authorized stops for the purpose of being in alignment with District policies and regulations and avoiding confusion on the part of the Department and the public.
  • Drives school bus/s or vans for the purpose of transporting passengers over scheduled routes to and from school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner.
  • Fuels assigned vehicle (e.g. oil, water, fuel, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining vehicle in a safe operating condition.
  • Informs other school personnel, parents, etc. of events and/or practices (e.g. scheduled stops, established routes, route conditions, etc.) for the purpose of advising them of issues that may require action.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information concerning students, staff or parents/guardian for the purpose of protecting individual privacy and following District guidelines.
  • Maintains personal availability for a varied schedule on "snow days" for the purpose of aiding District personnel in the case of a necessary early school closing.
  • Obeys all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses for the purpose of finishing all routes/activity trips in a safe and timely manner.
  • Operates two-way radio, constantly monitoring it, for the purpose of staying in communication with the Dispatcher and Department.
  • Prepares documents and reports (e.g. field trip reports, incident reports, inspections records, passenger misconduct, mileage logs, student counts, routing information, payroll information, etc.) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  • Reports observations and/or incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel.
  • Responds to inquiries (e.g. students, parents, other school personnel, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction.
  • Supervises students and other passengers during transit (e.g. demonstrating a sincere interest in children, utilizing District student discipline procedures, using positive verbal and non-verbal communication and interaction strategies, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining safety and following District policy.
  • Utilizes proper OSHA procedures when handling body fluids for the purpose of preserving driver and passenger health.
Other Functions
  • Assists other personnel, as may be required, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge And Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating all School Bus in fleet, Automatic Snow Chains, Controls of School Bus, Door Controls, Gauges, Fuel Pump, Two-Way Radio, etc.; and preparing and maintaining accurate records. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Wyoming rules and laws of the road; handle student discipline by approved Department procedures; troubleshooting mechanical problems with bus, etc.; concepts of grammar and punctuation; and safety practices and procedures. ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; displaying mechanical aptitude; maintaining confidentiality; and meeting deadlines and schedules.

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 75% sitting, 15% walking, and 10% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
