Job summary

CITY OF WESTFIELD’s Westfield Regional Public Safety Communications Center seeks an Emergency Telecommunications Dispatcher to serve both the City of Westfield and the Town of Southwick. The dispatcher is the call taker and radio operator for Police, Fire and EMS, handling emergency and non-emergency incidents with focus on responder safety and accurate information.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to obtain First Responder/CPR, LEAPS/NCIC, Emergency Medical

Qualifications

High school graduate or GED required; six months related experience.
Must have valid Massachusetts Driver License.
Must pass Massachusetts Board of Probation and Interstate Inquiry checks.
Must obtain within six months the following certifications: First Responder/CPR, LEAPS/NCIC, Emergency Medical Dispatch, Enhanced 911, and APCO Basic Telecommunication.

Responsibilities

Receive emergency and non-emergency transmissions for two communities; handle calls professionally and relay to responders.
Dispatch and manage Police, Fire and EMS units and response vehicles; coordinate follow-up and mutual aid.
Provide emergency medical instructions to callers and coordinate intercept with responders.
Maintain accurate records and keep responders informed of critical information.
