Job Description

The Naval Science Instructor (NSI) position at Tampa Bay Technical High School (TBT) in Tampa, Florida, will be available January 1, 2027. We are seeking a professional, team oriented, and highly motivated (retired) Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard Non – Commissioned Officer. The unit has one Senior Naval Science Instructor and two Naval Science Instructors and a cadet Population that’s consistently above 200. Applicants must be willing to work before and after school and some weekends traveling with cadets supporting school activities, competitions, community events, as well as actively participate in NJROTC summer leadership/training camp or attend instructor training/conference. This unit enjoys tremendous support from the school administration, school district, and the community. Tampa Bay Technical High School is a Magnet / selective enrollment High School with a diverse population of 2,200 students. It’s an "A" rated school. Instructors are 11-month employees of Hillsborough County School District and are paid at the Navy minimum with a JROTC coaching stipend. Summary:

The Teacher, Secondary Grades 9‐12, JROTC, is responsible for the instruction of

designated Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) content area(s)/course(s) in a classroom setting within a secondary school.

Responsibilities
  • Designs and implements appropriate instruction of content area(s)/course(s) assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs.
  • Creates a positive educational climate for students to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport.
  • Creates and delivers relevant and rigorous lessons that maximize student engagement and achievement.
  • Utilizes a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds in order to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Observes and evaluates student performance and mastery of standards, monitors student assessment data, and maintains student grades and attendance.
  • Manages student behavior in the classroom by utilizing effective classroom management strategies and invoking appropriate disciplinary procedures.
  • Communicates with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourages parental involvement.
  • Takes all responsible precautions to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records, inquiries, and data.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required.
  • Engages with local business and community stakeholders by maintaining a Program Advisory Board, to collaborate with the CTE program.
  • Participates in extracurricular JROTC activities.
  • Engages in continuous improvement and professional development, including earning appropriate industry certifications.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Letter of eligibility from commanding officer of respective military branch stating designation of ROTC eligible is required.

Reasoning Ability: Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
