Qualifications

Base Location: ANCHORAGE, ALASKA

Traveling to: Dutch Harbor, with potential travel to other locations in Alaska

Job Summary

The role involves maintenance and repair of facilities and a variety of heavy, medium, and light-duty equipment both in and out of the shop. This rotational position may include overtime. In the fleet department, you'll work with diverse equipment and machinery, providing opportunities to expand your skills and stay current with technological advancements. The mechanic will primarily collaborate with their team to repair and maintain Tank Trucks, Flatbeds, Light Duty Vehicles, and Support Equipment used for transporting petroleum products across the road system.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety regulations and standards
  • Conduct DOT inspections
  • Maintain PM schedules and repair documentation in our system
  • Identify greasing points included in PM services for various equipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair air braking systems on heavy-duty equipment
  • Possess basic equipment knowledge, including battery disconnect switches, proper startup and shutdown procedures, and understanding of starting procedures
  • Analyze, diagnose, repair, rebuild, and maintain heavy, medium, and light-duty equipment such as tank trucks, forklifts, loaders, and other heavy machinery
  • Dismantle, repair, and reassemble equipment using appropriate tools
  • Test mechanical products and equipment post-repair to ensure performance
  • Work on engines, structural, hydraulic, electrical systems, and subassemblies like transmissions and differentials
  • Perform safety and productivity observations in shop, field, vehicle, and equipment contexts
  • Perform duties in the shop or field as necessary
  • Travel to multiple locations up to 50% of the time
  • Perform brake services and inspections
  • Apply relevant methods, procedures, tools, and equipment
  • Obtain qualification for brake services through training or experience
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Class B Commercial Operator’s License (CDL) required or must obtain within six months
  • Current ASE Certifications and/or Automotive and Medium/Heavy Truck certifications required
  • Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification can substitute for an ASE certification; must be current and renewed timely
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a heavy diesel mechanic or 10 years’ experience as a technician in automotive or fleet environments, or completion of relevant trade school or college courses
