Job summary

Brown & Root Industrial Services seeks a Leadman to oversee crane crews on construction sites and help assemble rigging for lifting equipment. You will guide workers, communicate with crane operators, and ensure safety during hoisting operations.

Responsibilities include rigging setup, knot tying, splicing of rope/wire, and directing movement of loads according to signals. A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required for the role.

• Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership, instruction, and guidance to craft workers.
• Directs crane operator and hoisting engineer during lifts for safety.
• Attaches loads with ropes, chains, and hooks to crane gear.
• Sets up rigging and hoisting equipment using hand tools and power wrenches.
• Splices rope and wire cables to make or repair slings or tackle.
• Directs workers during hoisting of machinery onto/off ships, railcars, or trucks.
• Performs minor maintenance or cleaning of tools and equipment.
• Observes all safety rules and procedures.
• Coordinates moves of hands and feet according to signals and directions.
• Understands drawings/diagrams and how they translate to physical objects.
• Plans work and selects proper tools.

Leadman

Provides leadership, instruction, and guidance to other craft workers in work crew, providing assistance to Foreman, while working in the capacity of a journeyman.

Summary

Assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or material to construction project.

Responsibilities

• Loads, transports, unloads and assists in selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
• Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings and gin pole booms with bolts and clamps.
• Attaches load with grappling devices such as loops, wires, ropes and chains to crane hook.
• Gives direction to crane operator or hoisting engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled using hand signals, loudspeaker, two-way radio or telephone.
• Sets up braces and rigs hoisting equipment using hand tools and power wrenches.
• Has ability to tie various knots.
• Assembles and disassebles cranes.
• Splices rope and wire cables to make or repair slings or tackle.
• May direct workers engaged in hoisting of machinery and equipment onto or off ships, railroad, cars or trucks.
• Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
• Responsible for observing all safety rules. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
