Position Purpose
Responsible for loading, unloading, transporting, and positioning materials to and from various rooftop locations on residential homes and commercial buildings. Works closely with drivers to load materials onto trucks and manually unload them onto rooftops using conveyor systems, while adhering to roofing contractors’ specifications, safety standards, and protecting customer property.
Key Responsibilities
- Load and unload roofing materials from delivery trucks using manual and mechanical methods, ensuring careful handling to prevent damage.
- Follow safety guidelines and procedures, assist in assembling scaffolding and other structures, inspect equipment, and report any problems.
- Facilitate the safe distribution of materials onto flat and sloped roofs in accordance with company safety guidelines, prioritizing worker and property protection.
- Operate conveyor belt systems (where trained and certified) to transport building materials from flatbed trucks to rooftops, maintaining a continuous flow to meet project timelines.
- Verify and reconcile material orders, ensuring correct quantities are loaded and delivered, and maintain thorough documentation of all inventory movements.
- Provide exceptional service to roofing contractors by attending to their material needs and responding to inquiries.
- Adhere strictly to OSHA regulation and company protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Coordinate closely with drivers and team members to streamline loading and unloading processes and support overall branch operations.
- Assist in safety assessments by inspecting delivery sites for potential hazards and helping drivers maneuver vehicles in tight or challenging spaces.
Travel Requirements
Frequent local travel within the designated branch delivery area using company vehicles. Occasional travel (typically less than 10% overnight) to assist at nearby branches or support out‑of‑town storm or emergency relief efforts, all subject to advance notice and aligned with delivery schedules.
Physical Requirements
Must be physically fit and capable of lifting heavy items and operating machinery, maintaining good balance, and working at heights. Role involves standing, walking, bending, climbing, and handling materials up to 100 lbs regularly. Requires wearing a harness and other PPE.
Working Conditions
Primarily outdoors on rooftops with exposure to various weather conditions. Safety equipment (hard hats, harnesses, gloves) is mandatory. Work hours typically span Monday through Friday, with early start times and possible overtime or weekend shifts to accommodate delivery schedules. Exposure to loud machinery noise is inherent.
Minimum Qualifications
- Reliable transportation for commuting and authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Ability to pass a criminal and driving background check, and a pre‑employment drug test.
- Physical stamina and strength, capable of lifting 80‑100 lbs repeatedly.
- Basic math skills for accurate inventory counts.
- Proficient verbal and written communication in English; ability to read work and shipping orders and follow instructions thoroughly.
- Knowledge of OSHA guidelines and proper use of PPE (boots, gloves, harness).
- Experience working on sloped roofs of various pitches and heights, and wearing appropriate PPE.
- Availability to work Monday through Friday with potential overtime based on delivery schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of construction materials and procedures.
- Proficiency in operating a forklift and experience in roof work.
- Over one year of demonstrable experience in building materials, roofing supply, or rooftop delivery.
- Experience operating forklifts, boom/crane trucks, or similar equipment.
- Familiarity with conveyor systems and other loading machinery.
- Proficiency in Spanish in addition to English.
- Forklift certification.
Education & Experience
Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Relevant vocational training or certification in construction, material handling, or forklift operation. Minimum experience: 6 months to 1 year in general labor, warehouse operations, delivery, or construction‑related fields.
Certifications
Forklift certification preferred.
