SunnyMac Solar is hiring a Roofing Service Technician to inspect, diagnose, and repair residential roofing issues. The role emphasizes identifying root causes, determining corrective actions, and delivering lasting solutions while ensuring a high-quality customer experience.

The technician will assess leaks, repairs, and solar installation components, working independently in the field to ensure safety and workmanship standards are met.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• 5+ years of hands-on residential roofing experience preferred.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of residential roofing systems, installation and repair.
• Able to diagnose root causes and determine appropriate corrective actions.
• Capable of independent, sound technical decisions in the field.
• Demonstrates ownership, workmanship, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive inspections of residential roofing to identify leaks and damage.
• Diagnose water intrusion sources and root causes of roofing concerns.
• Repair, maintain, and complete corrective work per manufacturer specs and best practices.
• Inspect shingles, flashing, decking, underlayment, gutters, and related components.
• Evaluate roof penetrations and components for residential solar installations.
• Decide whether conditions can be repaired or require larger corrective work.
• Provide clear repair recommendations with required materials and labor.
• Conduct quality-control inspections and verify workmanship.

Position Summary

The Roofing Service Technician is a skilled field professional responsible for investigating, diagnosing, repairing, and resolving residential roofing concerns. This position requires more than the ability to perform a repair. The ideal technician understands roofing systems as a whole and can identify the root cause of leaks, failures, and deficiencies, determine the appropriate corrective action, and complete or recommend a lasting solution.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive inspections of residential roofing systems to identify leaks, damage, installation deficiencies, and potential failure points
• Diagnose the source and root cause of water intrusion and other roofing concerns
• Perform roofing repairs, maintenance, and corrective work according to manufacturer specifications and industry best practices
• Inspect shingles, flashing, penetrations, decking, underlayment, ventilation, gutters, siding, and related exterior components
• Evaluate roof penetrations and roofing components associated with residential solar installations
• Determine whether conditions can be appropriately repaired or require a larger scope of corrective work
• Identify workmanship, material, structural, ventilation, or exterior conditions that may be contributing to a concern
• Develop clear repair recommendations and identify materials, labor, and additional resources required to complete the work
• Complete quality-control inspections when needed to verify workmanship and identify corrective actions

Requirements and Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• 5+ years of hands-on residential roofing experience strongly preferred
• Has strong hands-on knowledge of residential roofing systems, installation, repair, and troubleshooting
• Approaches service calls with a diagnostic and solution-oriented mindset
• Can distinguish between symptoms and the actual root cause of a roofing concern
• Is comfortable making sound technical decisions independently in the field
• Takes ownership of assigned work and follows concerns through to resolution
• Demonstrates strong workmanship and attention to detail
• Communicates technical findings clearly to customers and internal teams
• Collaborates effectively while remaining self-motivated and productive in the field
• Recognizes when a repair is sufficient and when a larger corrective solution should be recommended
