Job summary

Solara Home Energy in Escondido, CA seeks a Roofing Estimator to develop accurate material quantity estimates, takeoffs, and quotations for roofing projects. You will review drawings and specs, work with the sales team and vendors, and support bidding for timely submissions.

You’ll read plans, perform digital takeoffs, and ensure estimates align with project requirements while coordinating with internal stakeholders and field teams. Hybrid work may be available based on business needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience estimating construction, roofing, architectural products, or related fields; or aptitude to learn estimating functions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed, itemized material quantity estimates.
  • Create roofing takeoffs and quotations from plans and drawings.
  • Read construction blueprints, drawings, plans and specs for estimates.
  • Analyze takeoff data using digital tools and software.
  • Support pricing with accurate sourcing and vendor contacts.
  • Maintain bid schedules and documentation for proposals.
  • Collaborate with sales and internal teams to meet project needs.

Position Summary

The Roofing Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate material quantity estimates, takeoffs, and quotations for roofing projects. This position reviews construction drawings, plans, and specifications to develop detailed estimates and support the bidding process. The Roofing Estimator works closely with the sales team, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure estimates are accurate, timely, and aligned with project requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Complete detailed and itemized material quantity estimates from owner- or contractor-furnished plan sets.
  • Prepare roofing takeoffs and quotations from architectural drawings and construction documents.
  • Read and interpret construction blueprints, drawings, plans, and specifications to prepare accurate project estimates.
  • Gather, analyze, and calculate takeoff data utilizing digital takeoff and estimating software.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with vendors and suppliers to support accurate pricing and material sourcing.
  • Ensure the thoroughness and accuracy of estimates while supporting efficient project execution by field operations teams.
  • Support the sales team by answering questions, providing estimate clarifications, and adjusting estimates and scopes based on customer feedback.
  • Maintain and track bid schedules to ensure timely completion and submission of estimates and proposals.
  • Perform clerical and administrative duties associated with maintaining project files, job folders, bid documentation, and estimating records.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to support project planning, estimating, and sales objectives.
  • Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience estimating construction, roofing, architectural products, or related industries; or a demonstrated aptitude to learn estimating functions.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Experience using digital takeoff or estimating software.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the roofing industry.
  • Experience with Edge, On Center, or similar digital takeoff software.
  • Previous experience supporting a sales or estimating team.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, bidding processes, and project estimating.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to prepare accurate and detailed material quantity estimates.
  • Ability to analyze plans, specifications, and architectural drawings.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, bids, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective vendor and internal stakeholder relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Sit for extended periods while performing computer-based work.
  • Use a computer, keyboard, mouse, calculator, and telephone on a frequent basis.
  • Read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Perform work in a standard office environment with occasional visits to construction sites as needed.
  • Primarily office-based position.
  • Hybrid work flexibility may be available based on business needs and manager approval.
  • Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility as needed to meet business demands.
