Job summary

The Roofer position with the Anchorage School District involves examining and repairing various roof types across school buildings. You will work on roof alteration plans and support maintenance tasks, on a 4/10 schedule with weekends off.

The district offers paid leave and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, HSA, FSA and life insurance, plus a PERS retirement plan. Ideal candidates have at least two years of roofing experience, knowledge of roofing and carpentry

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or current enrollment in a GED program.
  • Minimum of two years of roofing experience in the past four years.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures for roofing work.
  • Knowledge of IRMA Roofing Systems, hot roofs, built-up roofs and metal roofs.
  • Knowledge of standard carpentry practices.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots and repairs major roofing systems including asphalt shingles and wood shingles.
  • Uses and maintains hand and mechanical roofing tools.
  • Under supervision, coordinates and establishes plans for alterations for existing roofing systems.
  • May perform carpentry and maintenance of doors and related hardware.
  • Interprets and works from plans, prints, specifications, and procedures.
  • Writes reports as required.
  • Routinely works at heights over 20 feet.
  • Follows oral and written instructions.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others and maintenance procedures.

Job Summary

The Roofer examines and repairs different types of roofs for the various buildings in the Anchorage School District. The Roofer also works with plans for roof alteration and maintenance. Maintenance employees work a 4/10 schedule with weekends and holidays off. The Anchorage School District offers paid leave and a very competitive benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, HSA, FSA and life insurance. This position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).

Job Requirements

The following are required:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment in a GED program.
  • Minimum of two years of experience within the past four years as a roofer. Work experience must evidence ability to perform tasks assigned.
  • Knowledge of the safety procedures appropriate to the roofing and building craft trades.
  • Knowledge of standardpractices of the roofing trade including, but not limited to, tools, materials, proper methods and procedures used in IRMA Roofing Systems, hot roofs, built-up roofs and metal roofs.
  • Knowledge of standard practices of the carpentry trade.

Physical /Mental Demands

The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.
