Job summary

Aerotek is seeking a Rolling Mill Operator to join our Providence, RI manufacturing team. You will set up and operate precision metal rolling equipment, inspect finished parts, and ensure safety and quality while meeting production targets.

Job Title: Rolling Mill Operator
Job Description

The Rolling Mill Operator sets up and operates precision metal rolling equipment to reduce metal stock to specific thicknesses and dimensional requirements in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, accurate use of measuring tools, and consistent attention to safety and product quality while supporting increased production demand and strict delivery expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Set up rolling mill and related production machinery according to work orders, blueprints, and written specifications.
  • Safely operate, monitor, and adjust industrial production equipment to maintain required thickness, dimensions, and quality standards.
  • Feed raw metal materials into rolling equipment and ensure proper alignment and handling throughout the process.
  • Interpret and follow production orders, work instructions, and specifications to complete jobs accurately and on time.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, tape measures, and other precision measuring tools to verify product dimensions and tolerances.
  • Perform routine product inspection, including visual checks and dimensional verification, to ensure consistent quality.
  • Identify equipment issues, perform basic troubleshooting, and make minor mechanical adjustments to optimize machine performance.
  • Carry out simple maintenance and minor repairs on production equipment as directed.
  • Handle materials, including lifting boxes and metal stock, and move product through various stages of the production process.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all housekeeping standards in the manufacturing facility.
  • Follow all safety rules and PPE requirements, including safe operation of machinery and adherence to lockout/tagout and other safety procedures as applicable.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced production environment, adapting to changing priorities and short-notice activities.
  • Collaborate with team members in a team-oriented production setting to meet throughput, quality, and delivery goals.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to improve processes, quality, and efficiency.
  • Accurately record production data, measurements, and inspection results as required by work orders or quality procedures.
Essential Skills
  • Proven machine operation experience in manufacturing or production environments.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand how equipment functions and respond to issues quickly.
  • Ability to safely set up, operate, monitor, and adjust industrial production equipment while maintaining quality standards.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, production orders, work instructions, and specifications.
  • Hands-on experience using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, tape measures and related equipment.
  • Manufacturing production experience in a fast-paced environment with a focus on safety, quality, and productivity.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in following written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic math skills, including working with measurements and tolerances.
  • Excellent mechanical and logical thinking, including the ability to perform simple maintenance and repairs.
  • Strong safety awareness and commitment to following all safety rules and PPE requirements.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Physical ability to stand and move throughout 8–10 hour shifts and frequently lift between 10 and 50 lbs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience operating rolling mills or similar metal processing equipment.
  • Metal manufacturing or metal fabrication experience.
  • Rolling mill experience, slitter machine experience, or press operation experience.
  • Experience with CNC equipment, extrusion, wire drawing, or other industrial equipment operation.
  • Manufacturing technician or production technician background with machine operation experience.
  • Experience with precision measuring equipment beyond basic tools, including tensile testing and related quality checks.
  • Mechanical maintenance experience on production machinery.
  • Material handling experience, including lifting and moving metal stock and finished goods.
  • Forklift certification or prior forklift operation experience.
  • Quality inspection experience, including dimensional checks and visual inspection.
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices.
  • Continuous improvement mindset, with an interest in improving processes and throughput.

The position requires consistent use of personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe boots, and strict adherence to all PPE and safety requirements. Working conditions involve standing for prolonged periods, handling metal materials and boxes, and adapting to changing priorities and short-notice activities while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Providence, RI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
