Job summary

Granite Construction is seeking a Road Roller Operator to drive and operate heavy rolling equipment for compaction of earth fills, subgrades, and asphalt surfaces. The role requires reading drawings, strict safety adherence, and precise judgment in varying temperatures and material compressibility.

Responsibilities include controlling machine speed/direction, performing overlapping passes, and ensuring surfaces meet grade specifications.

Qualifications

• Read engineering drawings to interpret specifications.
• Practice good safety habits in dusty or dirty environments.
• Read and follow instructions and meet set standards.
• Judge distances and slopes accurately.
• Make decisions based on verifiable standards.
• Physically capable of stooping, bending, crouching, and lifting up to 50 lb.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate heavy rolling machine (road roller) to compact earth fills, subgrades, and bases.
• Control speed and direction to ensure even, compacted surfaces.
• Work over surfaces in overlapping passes to achieve required density.
• Operate, push, or guide the roller over areas not accessible to the machine.
• Follow safety procedures and company policies while on site.
