This position of Hot Mill Roll Shop Helper is responsible for various operating functions, including the operation of the Hot Mill Roll Grinder unit, with a focus on meeting quality and productivity goals as outlined in our quality system. The primary responsibilities are outlined below.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Communicate with the Roll Shop Unit Leader/Chock Maintenance Coordinator. The operator has pre-determined the work for the day, and the helper will assist him/her.
- Cover shifts as needed due to personnel and operational requirements.
- Perform daily greasing of edger chocks and purge F.M and R.M twice weekly.
- Inspect wheels of all chocks to determine if bearing replacements are necessary.
- Perform miscellaneous activities such as using impact tools for loosening or tightening bolts, removing bearing retainers and chock components, flying/using the crane, operating chock maintenance equipment, cleaning and painting chocks, loading/unloading rolls, and other tasks as assigned.
- To qualify for top-out pay of Level 3, the operator must be capable of performing the Roll Shop Crane operator job.
- Perform any/all jobs assigned by the Roll Shop Unit Leader.
SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Communicate clearly and thoroughly with all personnel in the hot rolling facility during the scheduled shift, including other Roll Shop staff, the Unit Leader, Engineer/Supervisor, and Hot Mill Manager.
- Report to the Roll Shop Unit Leader, Engineer/Supervisor, and Hot Mill Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Participate in continuous improvement programs.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED), basic computer skills, and strong communication skills are required.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Mobility: Stand (stationary) - 15%, stand/walk - 60%, walking - 15%, sitting - 10%.
HEALTH AND SAFETY:
- Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
- Follow company safety rules.
- Report any defects or issues with protective equipment immediately.
- Wear required safety gear: safety shoes, glasses, hearing protection, hard hat.
- Report violations of safety regulations or company policy.
- Follow Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for machines.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
