Job description

Job Summary

Driver operates a commercial roll‑off truck. The driver is responsible for providing and servicing containers filled with refuse or recycle materials. Drivers transport the material to disposal sites, transfer or recycle facilities from customer locations in roll‑off containers supplied by Millennium Recycling. Drivers navigate driveways, alleyways, lots, high traffic roadways and may operate in tight overhead environments while on roll‑off routes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Operate vehicle safely in accordance with OSHA and DOT requirements as well as local, municipal, state and federal regulations.
  • Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of assigned equipment and document checks on standard Vehicle Condition Report (VCR).
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings and meetings required by the Trucking Manager and Corporate Safety Team.
  • Work closely with the Trucking Manager, Dispatcher and Sales Representative to improve route efficiencies and identify best route practices.
  • Notify the Trucking Manager immediately of any incidents, accidents, injuries, property damage or unsafe conditions/situations.
  • Notify Dispatch immediately of service issues including blocked containers, closed lots, street, alleyways or potential safety hazards.
  • Communicate customer requests to the Trucking Manager or Dispatch.
  • Identify and report all containers in need of repair to the Trucking Manager.
  • Complete and submit paperwork via the Trux application on the company‑provided phone or tablet, and complete a paper copy as well.
  • Position and/or return containers on the customer’s property in a manner that ensures lids or doors are properly replaced and do not block driveway entrances.
  • Follow route assignments as directed and complete end‑of‑day documentation.
  • Perform all duties as scheduled by the Site Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
Qualifications

Education: Read and write in English. Able to communicate verbally with customers in an appropriate manner. Able to read and understand maps and navigate NE Illinois and NW Indiana.

Experience: 4 years of previous experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL and 2 years operating a roll‑off truck.

Other Requirements: Legally eligible to work in the United States; successfully complete a pre‑employment DOT drug screen, physical examination, and background check including previous employment, criminal history and motor vehicle record.

Work Environment
  • Required motor coordination with arm, hand, finger, and leg.
  • Required to exert physical effort in handling objects more than 50 pounds.
  • Requires pushing, pulling, bending, twisting and lifting up to 75+ pounds.
  • Normal setting for this job is outdoors and/or driving a heavy‑duty vehicle.
  • Exposed to a physical and outdoor environment: dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes.
  • Company uniforms, PPE and gloves will be provided for daily route usage.
  • Level of physical effort may vary from site to site and in some cases be greater or lesser than documented here.
