Run the night shift where robots go to school
We’re a well-funded AI robotics startup in Cambridge, and we collect the data that teaches general-purpose robots how to do, well, almost anything. We need a Shift Lead to take charge of the evening shift on our robotics floor.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll keep the team safe and productive, make sure the data we collect is top quality, and jump in to operate robots alongside your crew. You’ll also be an early hire at a brand-new company, working directly with engineering, product, and research, and your feedback will shape how we build and operate.
What you’ll do
- Run the evening shift: robot and task assignments, rotations, breaks, and priorities
- Own safety with pre-shift briefings, stop-and-flag protocols, and first-responder duties
- Handle shift handoffs and write end-of-shift reports that anyone can act on
- Operate robots with your team and build your teleoperation skills through structured training
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues, apply documented fixes, and elevate tricky problems to on-call engineering with clear, reproducible reports
- Keep things moving when a robot goes down by reassigning operators and rebalancing priorities
- Watch data quality in real time and flag sessions that need review or re-collection
- Coach operators, gather their feedback, and turn it into clear action items for the wider team
- Spot gaps in our SOPs and checklists, and suggest improvements
- Close out each night with robots stored and charging, equipment staged, and the floor ready for morning
What you bring
- 4+ years in manufacturing, industrial automation, field service, or another hands-on technical operations environment, including time as a shift lead, supervisor, or senior technician
- Hands-on electromechanical troubleshooting experience, including comfort with hand tools and a multimeter
- Working comfort with Linux command line basics, logs, issue trackers, and picking up new tools with limited documentation
- A track record of enforcing safety protocols, including calling a stop when something’s wrong
- Good judgment about which to fix on shift and what to elevate
- Availability Monday to Friday, 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM, onsite in Cambridge
- Experience with robotic, mechatronic, or industrial automation systems
- Exposure to VR, teleoperation, drones, or other remote-operated platforms
- Data collection, labeling, or quality inspection experience
- Python or Bash scripting
- First aid and CPR certification
- Practical use of AI tools to improve your workflow
Physical requirements
- Stand and move through an active robot lab for extended periods
- Work for extended periods in a VR headset with the spatial awareness to operate robots safely
- Work comfortably alongside moving robots and wear PPE as required
- Lift 50 lbs
Why you’ll love it
- Join a brand-new team at a funded startup
- Take on real ownership and visibility as an early hire
- Work side by side with engineering, product, and research
- Help shape the product and how we operate
