Job summary

Amazon seeks a hands-on Mechatronics Test Engineer to own technical execution for prototype robotic and physical-AI hardware in Boston. You will design test methods, benches, and acceptance criteria and diagnose failures across electrical and mechanical subsystems.

You will execute reliability programs (HALT/HASS/ALT), develop fixtures, and collaborate with hardware teams to deliver clear, actionable results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
• 7+ years hands-on hardware development, test engineering, or related.
• Robotics or complex automation experience.
• Experience developing test methods, fixtures, benches, and acceptance criteria from scratch.
• Hardware reliability testing experience (HALT/HASS/ALT, reliability growth).
• Experience testing actuators, sensors, power systems, and robotic systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, PCB layouts and mechanical drawings.
• Strong documentation for test plans, procedures, and failure analyses.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate test benches for robotic power systems, actuation, sensors, electronics, and interfaces.
• Develop test plans, methods, acceptance criteria, build procedures, and docs with hardware engineers.
• Create fixtures, jigs, and validation setups using fabrication, wiring, instrumentation, and scripting.
• Support prototype hardware builds with actuators, sensors, IMUs, encoders, and compute modules.
• Perform PCB bring-up; troubleshoot schematics, layouts, and mechanical drawings; triage issues.
• Validate CAN, EtherCAT, and RS-485 communications, addressing timing and signal integrity.
• Own root-cause/failure analysis across power, compute, communications, actuation, sensing.
• Design and run reliability and environmental tests (HALT, HASS, ALT, thermal cycling, vibration).
