We are looking for an experienced Robotics Hardware-Software Integration Engineer to develop, integrate, and maintain software interfaces between robotic hardware components and onboard computing platforms. The role involves working across sensors, actuators, embedded communication protocols, Linux-based systems, and robotics middleware to ensure reliable hardware-software integration.
The ideal candidate will have strong C++ and Python programming skills, hands‑on experience with real robotic systems, and expertise in hardware interfacing, system diagnostics, and integration testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain device drivers and software interfaces for robotic sensors, including LiDAR, cameras, IMUs, and encoders, as well as actuators such as motor controllers and hydraulic or pneumatic systems.
- Design, implement, and maintain communication interfaces between onboard computing systems and hardware subsystems using CAN, EtherCAT, serial communication, I2C, and SPI.
- Develop and maintain hardware abstraction layers that provide reliable, standardized interfaces for higher-level robotics software.
- Integrate new sensors and hardware components, including requirements definition, component evaluation, hardware bring‑up, calibration, and system validation.
- Implement system health monitoring, including power and thermal monitoring, hardware diagnostics, fault detection, and error‑handling mechanisms.
- Develop and maintain edge‑device software components for fleet management, over‑the‑air (OTA) updates, and telemetry using AWS IoT Greengrass or similar platforms.
- Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineering teams on hardware design reviews, component compatibility, and manufacturability.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux‑based computing platforms used in robotic systems.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for hardware‑facing software, incorporating hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) testing where appropriate.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware‑software integration issues in laboratory, testing, and field‑deployed environments.
- Work closely with robotics software teams to ensure reliable integration between hardware interfaces, middleware, and higher‑level applications.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience in robotics hardware-software integration, embedded systems, autonomous systems, or industrial automation.
- Strong proficiency in C++ and Python development on Linux‑based platforms.
- Hands‑on experience developing device drivers and integrating sensors and actuators with physical robotic systems.
- Working knowledge of hardware communication protocols, including CAN, EtherCAT, RS-232/RS-485, I2C, and SPI.
- Experience with ROS or ROS 2, particularly hardware interface nodes and robotics system integration.
- Familiarity with edge‑device and cloud connectivity platforms, such as AWS IoT Core, AWS IoT Greengrass, or equivalent technologies.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, hardware datasheets, and interface specifications.
- Practical experience debugging hardware and communication issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, or similar diagnostic tools.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across software, electrical, and mechanical engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing, automated integration testing, and CI/CD for robotics or embedded systems.
- Familiarity with robotic system diagnostics, fault management, telemetry, and fleet monitoring.
- Experience with OTA software deployment and remote management of connected robotic devices.
- Experience supporting robotic platforms through hardware bring‑up, validation, deployment, and field troubleshooting.
