Job summary

Lab37 Robotics is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineering student to own hardware sub‑components and test rigs, collaborating to understand the system and document requirements, CAD models, and testing procedures.

You will design mechanical sub‑components, build prototypes, analyze data, and contribute to scalable, manufacturable solutions while working onsite in the Los Angeles or Pittsburgh area.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Practical experience in building and testing mechanical systems; hands‑on fabrication skills are highly valued.
• A genuine enthusiasm for actuation, mechanism and robotics.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical team members.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and an innovative approach to mechanical design challenges.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical sub-components and test rigs, ensuring functionality and manufacturability
• Create detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and assembly instructions
• Conduct hands‑on prototype building and testing, analyzing performance data to iterate designs
• Utilize a variety of manufacturing processes and materials to optimize designs for performance and efficiency
• Participate in design reviews, presenting design concepts and demonstrating prototypes to stakeholders
• Manage documentation related to project plans, design specifications, and testing procedures
